				Problems with lighted cover?

I've read about the problems with the Amazon non-lighted cover with the random restarts. I have the Amazon lighted cover and pretty much keep my Kindle in it all the time. The occasional problem I have is that very occasionally my Kindle is frozen in the screensaver mode. It takes a holding the slider 30 seconds several times before it responds by turning all the way off. Then it can take holding the slider for 30 or more seconds several times before it reboots. This was happening a few times a week with the original firmware and only rarely with the second version. Up until last night I hadn't had this problem. As I was holding the slider (with no effect) I jostled the Kindle a little bit and it finally turned off. It occurred to me that maybe the case hinges were affecting the Kindle. I removed the Kindle from the case and was able to immediately reboot it. I put my Kindle back in its case and so far haven't had anymore problems, It has been several months since I had my Kindle freeze like that and it only freezes in the screensaver mode. I do plan on calling Amazon CS but was looking to see if anyone else has had similar random freezes. |

No issues with the lighted cover/freezes... yet. Still early, though.

None for me, but I've only had the cover for a couple of weeks. Will let you know if it happens. David. |

I have that problem right now. It is frozen in the screensaver mode and it won't reboot no matter how many times and how long I hold the slider( tried it at least 20 times ) and it is been like that since yesterday evening. No need to mention that I am [Expletive deleted by Moderator] furious. I got my Kindle and an unlighted cover in October and it worked perfectly for about 2 months, it never crashed, froze, nothing. And it started freezing after sleep mode like a month ago but the hard reset always worked. So yeah any ideas before I contact Amazon? Last edited by WT Sharpe; 01-21-2011 at 01:56 PM. |

First off, this thread is about LIGHTED covers, not unlighted ones. That being said, did you take the K3 out of the unlighted cover and see if it will work? (edit: unlighted covers have a known issue) |

oops sorry dude i opened a lot of tabs looking for the solution of the problem so when i saw that TallMomof2 had the same problem i automatically started posting. To answer your question Kindle is out of the cover since this first happened yesterday evening. Given the fact me and the TS have the same problem and different covers , could it be that the cover is not the one causing it?! |

Lighted cover since mid October and no problems yet. I hope yours is an isolated incident unrelated to the cover. I adore my lighted cover and would hate to see problems start popping up with them. The one freeze I did have happened when my Kindle was out of it's cover. I had the USB cord connecting it to laptop. When I pulled it out of computer, Kindle froze. I was probably supposed to do it in a different order, or do the 'safely remove hardware' thing. |

I thought I had a freeze one time, but it turned out the K3 was busy doing something and I just needed to be patient. But that was before I got the lighted cover.

I don't believe there are any problems with the lighted Amazon K3 cover. There doesn't seem to be an inordinate number of complaints about crashes with it anyway unlike the mystery with the unlit Amazon K3 cover.

As Speedlever noted, I've sometimes thought it was locked but I guess it was "thinking" about something and ignoring me. Then I would notice the little spinner in the upper left corner.

Not sure I would say there have not been "any" problems with the lighted cover as I visit various forums and have seen a post here and there about freezing even with the lighted cover. However, these problems seem to be few and far between compared to the issues seen with the UNlighted cover.

I've had the lighted cover since early December, and I haven't had any problems with the Kindle freezing. I hope that the problem is resolved to your satisfaction!

Hi, there is a very big problem with the lighted cover. It prevents you to sleep. Especially while a long flight over the ocean. You want to sleep, to minimize the jetlag. But because you have the lighted cover, you are able to read in a very low lighted area and can't stop reading your very interesting new [insert your favorite author]. And at the destination, the jetlag bothers you a long time. Bratzzo |
