B&N is not neglecting to release sales figures. Nobody releases them. Why should B&N be any different?

Agreed. I just had to say something since every time Amazon puts out a similarly silly press statement many of the Nook and Sony owners flip out and complain and whinge. I figured I would do their whinging for them. (winks)

Anyway...I wonder what percentage of those Nook hardware purchases represent a true loss of a sale to Amazon. I know people who would never purchase a Kindle...just because of it's popularity. They are the same kind of people who don't want to purchase an iAnything. I wonder what percentage weighed the merits of both devices and went for the Nook line? To begin with there's, well, the color. Not that big a deal for me, but if you read a lot of magazines, or comics, or art books, I can see it being a big deal. Then there's that whole tablet thing. I've got to admit: While I'd still have my Kindle 3, if I had more money to spend, I'd be very tempted to pick up a Nook Color just to root the thing and have an Android tablet (at a price much cheaper than an iPad). And the touch and backlight appeal to some people. I'm devoted to eInk, and I think (from what I've read) the Kindle is the best eInk device out there for my needs, but I don't think the Nook Color is a dog. I think it's definitely more of a competitor to the Kindle than the original Nook was (and is, since they're still selling it). | |
