Of course I don't expect everyone to like the Kindle.

It just the non-constructive, unwarranted, ugly comments I object to.

I seriously looked at a K3 when shopping for my Sony 600. Part of it was because of the nifty lighted covers. The nook also got a good share of my attention because of all the accessories available for it. To address the Kindle bashing issue: I'm not a huge fan of Amazon. It started when the Kindle store was locked down to ONLY people who owned Kindles. (Yep, I hold grudges, lol) They are usually a last resort for me when purchasing ebooks because of their "one click" buy system. Same with B&N. When I buy books, most of the time I'm doing it on "new release Tuesday" and buying more than one thing. I'm also doing this with a bank issued Visa debit card, and my bank throws fits when they get (for example) three purchases in a short amount of time for the same amount. They usually get flagged as duplicate transactions and at least one of them won't go through. With Books on Board and the Sony store, I can fill a cart and pay all at once. Also, no format shifting required, since I own a Sony.

I am a complete idiot.
I went to my aikido training. Since it was my second time I decided to exercise a bit before we start, just a couple a things I can't do very well.
It was cold.
*I* was cold.
And I thought it a great idea to start with rolling without getting warm first...
I also succeeded in over stretching in my first roll, which made the next 90 minutes of hard physical work very.... interesting. :/

In the short time I've been here the "1984 incident" has been brought up more times than I can count. Customers got their money back, right? People act like this ruined their lives or something. Seriously, get your priorities straight!

I haven't seen one mention of all the dozens of mistakes that have been made in their favor. I've gotten about 20 free books that were temporarily listed as free by mistake ... which Amazon stands by and sends the ebook for free even if it was a pre-order. And, of course, they have intentional free promos with enough books to keep many people in good reads without paying a dime.

Another big gripe people (who don't even have a Kindle so it shouldn't even matter to them) keep bringing up is that Kindle can't read library books. Well HORROR OF HORRORS - Big fat stinkin' deal! There is enough free reading available legally without most libraries' very limited selection of eBooks anyway. Besides, anyone with an IQ over 70 can use Calibre to make this happen if it's that important to them. And if you must use a library and will not use Calibre, then DON'T BUY A KINDLE!

Another gripe is "Amazon spies on people". Yes, Amazon tracks your purchases just like any other retailer when you have an online account with them. SOOOOO?? They make recommendations based on what you have bought and looked at in the past. SOOOO??? You don't have to buy it!!!
As far as Amazon reading your personal Kindle documents ....
And even if they did, do you really care? The only reasons I can think of that people get so worked up about this is if they have child porn or terrorist documents on their Kindle.

Another big one "Amazon has geo-restrictions". Yeah, so does everyone else. It's not up to the retailer.

I haven't seen this hater mentality towards any other retailers. Nobody puts up a post and then throws in a derogatory comment about B&N, Borders, or any other eReader.

Bottom line - If you are an Amazon hater then, by all means, do NOT buy a Kindle. Buy the eReader of your choice and MOVE ON WITH YOUR LIFE.

Karma is for good cheer. In fact, if ever you feel like giving bad karma, you know what works for me? Finding a post that deserves the good stuff (newbie posts and Introductions are always a good place to start).

And then come here to the Vent & Rant thread, because it's always good for a laugh... err, I mean, chances of support and empathy.

I do my best but I just can't help having these dark thoughts like:

why did hubby order stuff from Amazon last night and it's turned up the next day while mines been stuck in the post for over a week now when we use the same account? Huh why?

And very rich relatives who use us to order stuff from Amazon because they refuse to get an Internet connection - not because they don't understand technology but because they don't want to spend money they can easily afford. Meanwhile muggins me gets all the hassle of ordering stuff and having to send it back because it's not quite right. GRR

Hey, I have a tip for this one!

I'm the designated Amazon orderer for my family, too. But it's become so much easier now that Amazon gift cards are available in any corner drugstore in $25 and $50 increments. This year the relatives just tell me what to order, along with giving me enough gift cards to cover the cost. I apply the gift cards, place the orders, and the change left over stays in my account. Win-Win! Merry Christmas!

I do, since I get to keep the leftover gift card amount credited to my Amazon account!
