how does swiping work up and down on the 350?

Well I am a little sad. I went into bestbuy and checked out the 350 and loved the size weight and touch. However I could not figure out swiping...sometimes swiping up took me forward, simetimes backward. I then looked under options (whatever it was called) and only saw options to set left and right page turn options. Oh man swiping up and down takes no effort but for m side to side is unnatural and a pain. Btw the only "book" I could test on was the lisencing agreement. So am I missing something? Can swiping up and down work simply for page turns and for the nice swipe and hold for multi page turns that I saw? |

It's side-to-side but that includes a diagonal motion and it can be a very short action... If any form of sideways action is out of the question then I think you may be out of luck. My thumbs are increasingly arthritic but I don't find a diagonal swipe a problem...

From what I can tell, up and down do nothing. If you put the tiniest slant on the up/down swipe, the Reader interprets it as a left or right swipe. It's not like an iPhone where you scroll pages -- it's a reader, where you turn discrete pages. Hope that helps. |

Swiping down is page backward and swiping up is page forward. When using the up and down swipe you must be very accurate as any deviation towards the diagonal may have the opposite affect from what you intended. Due to the sensitivity (and to avoid frustration) I would stick with a left/right or diagonal motion for turning pages.

well for sure there (as far as I could tell looking at the options) only a left and right official option. so perhaps my up and down were actually just poor left and rights. Hmm surprised that you can't set it to up and down. Regardless the touch weight and size really make me not want a kindle...

Up and down are official options as well... it's there for landscape use Turn your device over and a flick up in portait is a flick left. That is why it works that way in my assumption. I often use a diagonal or up and down motion, depending on how i'm sitting/laying and holding the device. In short, up and down work fine |

I never thought I'd be using the backwards feature, but the device can be so sensitive I do occasionally over-advance.

Thanks, is there a quality drop when you do this? also...can someone say once and for all since I am getting different feedback here....does swiping up and down work or is it just left and right?

I guess this is probably for another thread but just to confirm them, I can take all my kindle books and get them into ebub that can be read on the sony? Do I somehow drag the books from the kindle back to my (linux) pc and then run them through calibre, then put them into the sony?

By the way I can't emphasize enough how much I want the ebub format as opposed to epub...
