I think in a lot of ways we are looking at a generation that is much more selfish, and as I said earlier narcisstic. in dealing with many of them the impression (and this lifestyle doesn't help) I get is "That's all fine for the rest of you mere mortals but what do I get out of it?" children do not compliment that mentality

Are they really more extreme that the super yuppies who live around here in Plano? Madly living beyond their means all their lives. Working 14 hours a day in a high pressure environment for that 5,000 sq foot (500 sq meter) house, Mercedes, and 4 day vacation at the hyper resort of the year? But that's socially productive, so go for it. (If I may quote that radical socialist Aesop - Better beans and bacon in peace, than cake and ale in fear.) |

Maybe they won't have any. If they choose to, it'll be interesting to see if they cope. I think most people compromise their ideals to some extent when they have children and 'settle down', they'll probably be no exception. |

I can just imagine a digital friend coming over to my pad with his wife and three wailing kids! I'd just leave the apartment and go to a hotel... |

The dream of A.I. is within our grasp... Digital Monkeys! Pets you can store data on! Seriously, though, why is it that when technology makes small steps forward, certain humans insist on taking great leaps backwards? In an evolutionary sense? I think it's time the world considered bringing back asylums. And a human breeding standard. Like puppies, kitties and horses. |

I was thinking of tamagotchi just yesterday when I saw the ebook reader pet peeve" thread-- how about an ebook reader pet applet for the Kindle...
