Two things you can do without needing to be at home are to do a full power off and power on (hold button for 20 seconds or so, not just sleeping); and logging out of your Kobo account on the device and back on again (which will rebuild the database).

Kobo mini
Is the firmware 3.5 also good for the mini? Or is it still stuck at 3.4.1?

Has anyone had problems with large PDF files (40 pages or so in length, with many images) loading and paging slowly with 3.5.0?
I've been using my Glo to read sideloaded PDF files of the magazine The Nation. With 3.3.0, the files opened quickly and I was able to page through the magazine without any delays. Now, it takes forever to load the same editions of the magazine and the first few page turns from the cover image take forever. Also, zooming in beyond a certain zoom level results in a black screen. This has been so frustrating that I've reverted to 3.3.0. That's a shame because the web browser in 3.5.0 behaves far more gracefully than 3.3.0. Any insights? |

I think someone reported that swipes in dictionary search windows tended to cause two-page turns. I noticed the same in 3.3.0, but not in 3.5.0.

I experienced that problem, too, Jellby.
I found an easy "solution", though. You have to make sure that you use small swipes to ensure that you only advance one page at a time. Long swipes will skip over multiple pages. Ironically, the length of the swipe you should use is approximately the same length of space occupied by the characters "Page X of Y" (where X is the page you are on and Y is the total number of pages) which appears in the lower left-hand corner of the dictionary look-up box. Swipe from right to left in a space just two lines above those characters (from "Y" to "Page") and the dictionary listing should advance one page at a time. That probably sounds strange, but it works. |

Since loading firmware 3.5.0 onto my Aura HD, I've had several instances of the reader completely freezing while adding an annotation. When this happens, the power/sleep switch is completely unresponsive as well - the only option is to reset the device with a paper clip in the small hole at the bottom. I didn't have this problem with any previous version of firmware.
And on a somewhat related note, does anyone know if the bug that caused annotations to disappear when books were stored on the internal memory of the reader is still there? My library has been stored on the SD card in my Aura HD since shortly after I got the reader last year, as I found that the bug only happened when storing books in the internal memory, not when they were stored on the SD card. |

My reader usually freezes while suspended, or with a buggy epub (I have yet to determine what exactly is the bug), but I have a patched firmware. I haven't seen it freeze while annotating or the annotations dissapearing so far, but I've had an unresponsive reader while trying to add an annotation, and in this case the power button worked: sleeping and waking up fixes it.

I have been getting freezing on 3.5.0 as well. But mine seems to have no rhyme or reason to it. Just now it froze on the Library screen. Then it froze while rebooting never getting to the last square of the reboot screen. Most times when it freezes I have to hold the power button to the right for 20-30 seconds to get it to reboot as it will just stay frozen otherwise. I am on stock firmware un-modded.
Kobo really needs to step up their quality control as this is unacceptable. All of these updates and there is still cut off text on all fonts when on the lowest margin for kepubs not to mention the abysmal support the .epub engine has been shown. How long did it take to fix the long paragraph bug in the .epub engine, 21 months? Last edited by violent23; 07-22-2014 at 12:02 PM. |
