Yes, the Colorsoft actually shipped with 5.18.0 and got a couple of minor updates which were only applied via OTA during registration; 5.18.0.1.0.1 was in fact “released” last year. 5.18.1 is the first official release since WinterBreak came out.

Yup. I had my 11th gen jailbroke and setup the way I wanted it, but thought the doubletap was worth the upgrade. Turns out the double tap works on all newer models of the Kindle, but not the 11th gen PW that I had.

Long story short, I screwed up and lost my Jail break. I'll miss the wireless connection to calibre the most. I do have a smaller Gen 6 Kindle that I will be jailbreaking soon.

Hmmm... when I upgrade a PW4 to 5.18.1, I had to re-install the latest hotfix (copy to the root of the exposed storage, safely eject, open All Settings and run Update from the hamburger menu. Once the hotfix was re-installed, I ran it's booklet and then re-installed KUAL and MRPI. The jailbreak survived the update but the rest needed to be re-installed.

That is exactly as I would expect. If I had done that, I undoubtedly would have been fine. But alas, I screwed up along the way. In my infinite wisdom, I briefly thought a factory reset would reset it back to 5.17. Now I know better.

I got my Colorsoft today. It came with 5.18.0.1 or something. I was going to start the jailbreak then read there is the double-tap update. Figured I'll install that first and then jailbreak. That was a screw-up!

I actually had referred to the Kindle models wiki page which has the official instructions. There it says Kindle Colorsoft firmware as 'LATEST'. And I also saw the jailbreak was updated 3 days ago. I figured that means it's compatible with the latest firmware.

Anyway, now I'm on 5.18.1 and unable to jailbreak.

So, I know I just registered, but I got my Paperwhite 2021 from Woot today. Jailbroke it on 5.17, but saw that 5.18.1 was out, so I figured if I updated it to the most recent now, I could hold off on updates for a bit. Well... I was unable to re-run the hotfix or jailbreak it again.

I WAS, however, able to manually downgrade to 5.14.2 via the instructions here: https://kindlemodding.org/firmware-a...oading-updates

I'm now back on a jailbroken 5.14.2 Paperwhite 2021.

I own a Kindle Basic 2024 and tried to jailbreak it, didn't realise it got to update to 5.18.1. I cannot copy the Active Content folder at all

It seems it is blocked. Is there any way I could jailbreak this device? Thank you

Not at this time, and not likely anytime soon.

Hey I have a Kindle Paperwhite 4, I did a jailbreak at version 5.14.? after which (after running hotfix etc.) I updated it to version 5.18.1
Running the hotfix is not possible, reinstalling also.
I tried to go back to version 5.14.2, but when I try to install the update I get a failure message.

If you want to jailbreak at all in the foreseeable future then, yes, do it now and do the upgrade to 5.18.1 after.

This is basically for anyone who have a 10th Gen or later Kindle

From several reports, update your Kindle to firmware revision 5.16.3+ but less than 5.18.1 before jailbreaking. Several reports where someone has jailbroken a 10th gen or higher Kindle with earlier firmware and then updated directly to 5.18.1 only to have the hotfix not work to recover the jailbreak.

DO NOT USE THIS AS INSTRUCTIONS!
Use Winterbreak's webpage and follow all the instructions there. I'm clumsy, I may have forgotten a step, used steps not needed, or written something wrong. I wrote this simply as a reference.

Scribe 2022
From 5.17.4 to Jailbreak->Hotfix->MRPT
5.18.1 copied to Kindle
Minor issue, update file wasn't detected. Simply selecting Restart updated Kindle to 5.18.1
Copied and installed hotfix again. (I've forgotten to uninstall OTARenamer before installing hotfix, as instructed on Winterbreak's page, luckily I had no issues)
Installed KUAL and MRPI again.
Disabled OTA updates.

5.18.1. KUAL works. KOReader works. I've not tried anything else.

So, once Winterbreak is installed, how do I use the store on my device? When I click on the store icon, all I get is the Winterbreak symbol.
