New psychological horror/thriller novella
Meet William Brookshire. He’s just a simple college student, out collecting a couple of items for a late night rendezvous with the girl who used to be the love of his life. But what should be a night of passion turns into something much worse when a spontaneous street race turns his life upside down.
He knows it isn't his fault when the driver of the Porsche runs a red light. He knows it isn't his fault when the driver dies of the injuries he sustains during the horrible accident. But William just can't make himself believe he is completely free of responsibility. And when a vision of the driver starts appearing in his room, starts stalking him around campus, it threatens to drive him mad. King of the Merge is an 18,000 word novella that explores how guilt, real or perceived, can threaten to tear a fragile mind apart. It is a horror/thriller, and quite possibly a ghost story, though I’m not entirely sure (and I wrote it!). Read it and let me know what you think. ![]() Amazon for the Kindle: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005U875UA Barnes and Nobles for the Nook: http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Kin.../2940013266032 Smashwords for PC and other readers: http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/95205 |

There has been a bit of a demi-surge of interest in my horror/historical novel DEVIL TREE that I would love to see continue.
![]() What people are saying... "This genre needs new blood and Steve Vernon is quite a transfusion." - Ed Lee "Steve Vernon taps the strange fiction vein like no one before" - Hellnotes "Steve Vernon is one of the finest new talents of horror and dark fiction" - Owl Goingback Only one review so far, but the sales have been dogpaddling steadily along. Wouldn't you like something that is guaranteed to creep you out right down to your bone cells? May I shamelessly tempt you? |

THE DEPTHS OF DECEPTION America has disappeared some years ago. A neo-fascist Party has come to power in the UK. China is on the rise. A submarine hurtles through the cold dark waters of the Atlantic en route to an unknown destination. Only the ship’s doctor knows its true mission, but he is not who he appears to be. A sweeping tale moving from the violent heart of Apartheid South Africa, to the ruins of the United Kingdom, and down to the edge of the world in the frozen Antarctic landscape, The Depths of Deception is a tale of revenge, served as a shatteringly cold dish. http://www.amazon.com/The-Depths-of-.../dp/B004RPVVTI Quote:

The Kindle Book Review - 5* for Midnight Reflections
![]() Must Read Romantic/Suspense!!!, October 12, 2011 By The Kindle Book Review I really love this book. It was an awesome page turner. I was in suspense through the whole book. It starts out with Julia going and finding out about her brother. She finds him in a hospital not getting the medical attention that he needed. She moves him to a private hospital. Her car gets towed and when she leaves the impound the car starts acting up. She's stuck on the road and that's how she first meets Robin. He's a lawyer but mistakes him for a mechanic. Robin helps her tow her car and drops her off at the hospital. Unfortunately Julia's brother dies. Robin suspects foul play. Robin and Julia join forces to uncover the truth. This is a wonderfully written story and I really enjoyed it. Wish that Midnight Reflections had never ended. If it hadn't though I'd never got any sleep. 5-stars. - Crystal Newman, The Kindle Book Review. |

Where Dreams are Born, a Kindle or print book from a small publisher.
It was supposed to be a win-win situation—a safe environment in which to raise a son for single mom Vicky, housekeeping and childcare for widowed Jack. Neither one wants or expects anything more. Life, however, has more in store than either one imagines. “Joyce DeBacco pens one of those tales that is warm and loving while still mixed with trials that will touch a reader's heart. Jodie, Suzy, and Linda are sweet little girls. But five year old Linda holds a secret that would be too much for an adult to live with. As a nanny and housekeeper Vicky is a better woman than many of us as she deals with the little ones. Not unusual that she and Jack would be attracted to one another after what she's lived through. What's unusual, and special, is the way this author weaves their feelings and their struggles with them through the tale. DeBacco pens a wonderful story.” Dee Dailey of The Romance Studio. I hope you'll give it a try. Joyce |

No sorcery can contain or confound him. No scholar or sage can outwit him. But for all his skills, he is but one of us; a man, a human, who shares our faults, our dreams, and our ambitions. He boldly strides across the land, fearless, peerless, and cloaked in mystery; all his will bent on righting such wrongs as he deems fit. Until the day the Gateway opened and turned the world on its head. On that fateful day, Korrgonn came and washed away our dreams. And his outre' realms of chaos set their unholy mark upon our world and claimed it for their own. Only Theta and his companions see the enemies aligning against us. But no man, not even our greatest hero, can stand against the Lords of Chaos and the dark armies of Nifleheim at their command. Fiends that infiltrate unseen within our ranks, that tear down our temples and our traditions; that devour us from within, unseen, unknown, unheralded, and unopposed until the hour grows far too late. Through the murk and mist that hangs before our eyes, one man only sees true. One man pierces the veil of magic that blinds us all and marks the world as it truly is, revealing secrets, secrets of Angle Theta, so horrifying as to shatter a man's mind and call into question the very nature of good and evil. When time is short, why not read something short? Midnight and Holding, my new short story collection contains timely stories of interest for wives and mothers everywhere. No blood, gore, or specters involved.
Sometimes we wish we could stop the clock and rewind time. Maybe to savor a happy moment, take back words spoken in haste, or fulfill an ambition. Other times we want to turn the clock ahead, hopeful of better times or fortunes. Midnight and Holding is a collection of stories reflecting those desires. Total words: approximately 12,000. Rubies and Other Gems – A woman’s trip back in time puts her present problems in perspective. (This is the short that inspired my novel of the same name.) The Shed – A newly erected garden shed is the catalyst that reconnects a driven executive with his neglected wife and children. Harvey’s New Suit – A woman buys her husband his first new suit in years. Rainbow Years – A carefree youth calls to mind a woman’s own dreams and desires. Mad Dogs and Fishermen – A humorous account of an innocent suggestion taken to extreme. Midnight and Holding – A parent’s rite of passage. Code for free Smashwords copy found on my website. |

Rubies and Other Gems - the Novel, an e-book in many formats.
Lily’s life isn’t going well. Her husband is clueless; her children are rudderless. It's little wonder she seeks comfort in her dreams, unaware that her grandmother’s rubies have transported her back through time to a safer, saner existence. When she learns that her dream lover is not a dream after all, but a real man who lived and died years before she was born, family problems mount. Because she can’t repair the damage from the past, she vows to stay in the here and now. She almost succeeds when she accidentally sends herself back in time without her return ticket, the rubies. "Rubies and Other Gems is a wonderful treat for all women, especially those who know the stresses of married life.” Jaidis Shaw of Juniper Grove. |

Sunshine Meadows Crime doesn't pay. Or does it? If you can't afford to buy something, you can just go and steal it, can't you? You'll probably get away with it. Unless you are really unlucky. Then you'll just have to live with the consequences. This is the tale of an ingenious robbery. One that goes wrong. Jen lives right in the middle of a massive run down council estate with her fifteen year old son. For years, she has dreamed of leaving for a better life, but simply doesn’t have the money to do so. Until she wins the lottery, that is. But will that win be the start of good or bad luck? Approx 8800 words. Free short story at Smashwords. http://https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/97140 Last edited by Dr. Drib; 10-18-2011 at 01:08 PM. |

BookWenches Loves BALLISTIC by Trey Dowell
Bobby of BookWenches took the thrill-ride that is Ballistic, saying:
"This story is essentially one long, nail-biting scene told from the viewpoint of a character who could only be considered an antihero, because he is anything but a typical hero." Check out her full review. Quote:

Serendipity House. Now with new cover and lower price.
A runaway bride and the PI hired to find her get more than they bargained for at a rundown country inn filled with senior citizens. Fennel of The Long and Short of It says, "This story is full of wonderful people who all have an integral part to play to bring Alex and Sylvie together. This is balanced by the other half of the cast who are equally intent on keeping them apart. Conflict, goal, and motivation! This book has them all. Ms DeBacco’s understanding of human nature creates a heartwarming story that, for me, is a ‘keeper’." Why not visit Serendipity House and meet its residents and guests. |
