I ordered an M90 from ebookreaderdiscounter on the 22nd.
My pre sales question of how firm the 24th June shipping date on their site was, had been answered telling me that batch had been completely sold out due to high demand. They has a few left in the next shipment due in the first week of July. |

A few quick questions.
1) Can you turn off the IR sensor on M90/91S , since it sound to be a pain. 2) How does one do a selective zoom on M91S? or jump across bookmarks/search for a word... in short , can some one give a brief on the interface? Cheers! |

Yes, I received it. Thanks to Charles, everything went smooth from his side.
The reader looks cheap because of the plastic front panel poorly processed. This is the only negative so far. Pages refresh is pretty fast, SD card works great: it can see the entire directory structure created on computer and you can read DJVU and CHM without any convertion! PDF also works great, it does reflow with zoom very well. Changing font size leads to picture loss, but I guess it should be in this way? Though the screen is a bit small for technical papers, but for books it is OK. I did notice it is a bit slow when opens a new document. I was able to connect to WiFi quickly, with secure access. However browsing is really not a pleasant experience. Browser looks very functional, but really slow and incovinient w/r to iPad. Also, the cover which comes free is really poor quality and smell. So as it looks to me very functional and capable reader, if you can live with its appearance and intend just to read documents, books, papers, etc. |

It is indeed slow on opening documents. I was just reading a PDF novel, and it was slow turning pages (1+ seconds) and the IR page turns were an exercise in futility. I finally gave up and used the stylus on the screen to turn the pages. This went well for the most part. At one point, I tried to turn the pages and the unit locked up completely. The pages wouldn't turn. None of the bezel buttons got a reaction. The reset button on the back had no result. I was finally able to turn the unit off and on with the power button, and then the book opened again and I was able to turn the pages.
At several times the previous day, the font size would change (get larger) for no apparent reason. Today this did not happen. No spontaneous page turns, either. I wonder if this is due to it being very sunny yesterday, and overcast today. Despite these issues, so far I really like reading on this device. The screen is beautiful, and there is a large amount of text displayed on the page. If the pages would turn as quickly (and accurately) as they ought, it would be almost perfect. |

I'd like to second that question - I have an Entourage Edge and when I annotate a text PDF and then save it, the Edge turns the text PDF into an image. This is a pain, because the size of the file is a lot larger and I can't search it anymore. Does the Onyx do that as well? Also, when you save annotations, does the Onyx simply add them to the original PDF or does it create a new PDF?
Thanks! |

Can you try saving or exporting a PDF that you have highlighted/annotated? I'd really like to know if Onyx simply adds the highlights/annotations to the original PDF, keeping it a regular, searchable PDF, or whether it turns the PDF into an image-based PDF, so that you can see the highlights, but the text can no longer be searched/highlighted/selected in another document viewer. I'd love to get the M90, but if annotating a PDF means that the PDF is then useless when I send it back to my computer, it doesn't fit my needs. Thanks! Mark |

Has anyone played around with highlights/annotations on the M90 yet? Can anyone give us some information on which file formats can be highlighted/annotated and how those highlights/annotations can be transferred to a computer? Are the annotations/highlights saved in a different file (like the Kindle does)? or are they saved as part of the same file? If a different file, what's the format? and how is it linked to the document it was an annotation of? Also, has anyone tried the firmware update that addresses the IR problem? Has it fixed the problem?
Thanks! |

I think the m90 is a great device but it has a few bugs. For instance when booting the device with the usb charger connected it seems to crash. Also navigating around the menu system while it is charging also makes it crash and a reset on the back is only way out.

I just received my m90 (Dulin's books was fast and helpful - good service). The machine has a lot of potential (i.e. the screen is nice), but as it stands it's a bit of a brick. It's slow (glacial compared to my Kindle 3) and buggy. It's slowness is compounded by a lack of responsiveness, so you never know if it's being slow or just didn't register the command (or if it's just gone into 'hang mode'), which makes it even slower as you wait to find out before hitting the button again. The UI is not very intuitive and the options are definitely odd in some cases. Many of the promised features don't actually work: the handwriting recognition doesn't work, except for Chinese (but even there it's accuracy at recognizing symbols is very poor), the annotation function is not great (the highlighted portions seem to appear and disappear at random and the highlighted portion often gets stored without spaces - not ideal) and as yet annotations cannot be exported to your computer (promises for the future). The text to speech is comically bad - even reading along with the text I couldn't tell what words it was trying to say. The keyboard function is extremely slow and the letter you pressed usually doesn't show up until you've pressed the next one, which means if you've made an error you can't see it until you've moved on.
The IR sensor is largely useless - it works sometimes, but usually not, and to compound that problem, if you're in annotation mode the IR sensor doesn't work at all and since it is the only controller that allows you to scroll (rather than jump pages) you can't scroll when annotating. Sorry for the negativity of this review, but the machine is a bit of a lemon. It could be good, but it needs an extensive amount of reworking and debugging. Until those fixes are in, I would advise avoiding this machine. |

Actually, ir sensor works fine in my device, even in annotation mode. But for the rest i have to agree. However, some other feaures work great for me: for example the annotation function, when performed in scrbble mode.

https://www.onyx-boox.com/onyx-boox-...x-m90-firmware It gives it as version 1.5.1 |

The pen can be used to scroll but not at the same time as its writing. choose the hand tool to scroll with the pen.
