On how to install, please go to the open post of that thread.
Next version of KSM and/or Koreader?

When the new version(s) is/are posted, will there be new directions on how to install and use them?

As for KSM, the directions of this post will remain valid.
The concerned information will be found under the headers "First time installation" and "KBStartMenu_06_update01c.zip" (the "c" being the only difference to the current "KBStartMenu_06_update01b.zip").

Maybe I will provide in addition to the new update package a single package for the whole thing including all updates in order to make installation easier for new users. In that case you will only need to follow the steps of "First time installation."

As for Koreader (if used with KSM) the directions are unlikely to change. Basically you have to download an archive from this page, decompress it and copy the folder koreader into the folder .kobo of your device. If Koreader is already installed on your reader, there is no need to change anything.

Thank you! An easy (work around) way to do this would be:
  • copy screenshot.sh from kobo\kbmenu\scripts_intern\div to kobo\kbmenu\scripts
  • in KSM select scripts > screenshot.sh
  • find the image file in the root of the device

Yes you need a PC, you have to be connected via usb or wifi.

Koreader releases.

My install guide using KSM.

As can be seen here, keeping up with the download site changes can be challenging.

@tshering

I have did the workaround with screenshoot.sh but only get a black picture. What's wrong?
By the way, I have telnet running and tested but... I have never used telnet and i don't know what to do now for a screenshot, sorry. Can you iluminate me, please?

In any case, the buttons seems to be half height or even less than the picture you show me about the ksm geometry

That certainly looks easier than what I do. I'll have to try it tonight when I get home.

I use KSM like this, actually I enable the driver for loading the books which nickel should see, and I disable it, then use "connect" feature of calibre to connect to a hidden folder. This way calibre metadata also has two file, one in the root (for nickel) and one in the hidden directory (for search in koreader, though for this its path had to be entered into the settings of koreader).

I understand that you can telnet to the reader. Right? And you still have .kobo/kbmenu/scripts_intern/div/screenshot.sh on your reader. Then you write
Code:
/mnt/onboard/.kobo/kbmenu/scripts_intern/div/screenshot.sh
into the telnet console and press enter. You will find the image file in the root (of the user space) of the reader.

I adapted Frostschutz' AutoShelf beta for usage with KSM. The difference to the original is that the user decides when to update the collections rather then having them updated each time the reader is unplugged.

Installation:
copy the script autoshelf_on_demand.sh to .kobo\kbmenu\scripts_intern\returntests (under KSM 8 copy the script to .adds\kbmenu_user\returntests)

Usage:
select (KSM home) scripts > tests > returntests.msh > autoshelf on demand.sh (under KSM 08: select (KSM home) user scripts > tests > returntests user.msh > autoshelf on demand 03.sh)
(During the update the kobo update animation is shown! Don't worry! [This is not the case with later versions.])

Note [only for older versions of AutoShelf]: If after AutoShelf has created the shelves/collections, you replace the newly modified database by the previously backed up version and want AutoShelf to do the job again (for playing around/testing), you have first to delete the file autoshelf_md5sum in .kobo\kbmenu\log (You can do this on the reader via "scripts > browse > browse kbmenu.msh > log", toggle to "delete" and select "autoshelf_md5sum")

Only for KSM version 06.

Edit: I added an updated version (based on KoboRoot-AutoShelf-3.16.10.zip). I expect it to work on KSM 06, 07, 08 (path name differs in 07 and 08 from that in the above description, of course). I left the .autoshelf-uninstall thing as it is, even though this is a little strange for a menu driven approach.

Before using this package, deinstall the regular AutoShelf correctly in order to avoid conflicts.

The advantage of this for non-nickel users is that the KoboTouch reads the database on the device to get what books are on it. If you don't use nickel, the database won't be populated and calibre will not show any books on the device. Using "Connect to folder" means calibre can find the books on the device.
Thanks a lot for this hint. It makes it a lot easier. I had installed all the Kobo driver and after that Calibre did not recognise my hidden folder on Kobo. So I had to create a folder on my PC and synchronise Calibre with this folder after that I had to synchrone this folder via a synchronisation software with my hidden folder on Kobo, it functioned - this software did detect my hidden folder on Kobo - but it was a bit more complicated than your proposal. So in fact after enabling the Kobo driver everything works well!!!

Sorry for coming back on that - and so late - your proposal brings me to the dictionaries installed in Nickel .kobo\dict not those installed in koreader\data\dict so I can only activate those installed via Nickel. I there no possibility to activate those in the koreader file?

I did not even know that one has to activate dictionaries in koreader. I thought you put the dictionary files in the dictionary folder, and koreader will pick them up. I will however admit that I use koreader only occasionally and do not know much about its features.

That is right you can add any stardict dictionary to koreader/data/dict folder, and it will be included in those that are queried when a word is selected. When a definition is found in more than one dictionary, arrows are provided to move through the definitions provided by each dictionary. I have three or four on my Koreader now.

The WiKi.

Could somebody please test whether the size of the buttons on the bottom is better with this version of the executable, especially on Aura HD, Aura, Aura H2O? The size of the buttons is now proportional to the font size.

Copy the file kobomenu into .kobo\kbmenu, and reboot the device.
