I see. I suppose you have installed KBStartMenu_04_update01a.zip. This is required, because older version do not have this function. In the main menu, you press "usb". Then appears a new screen (see the first picture). If you then press "usbnet toggle. sh", usbnet gets enabled and the screen looks like the second picture. If you press again "usbnet toggle. sh", usbnet gets disabled.
If you do not have the option "usbnet toggle. sh", you have possibly not the .kobo/vlasovsoft/launcher folder on your device. Maybe you have an older version of the Kobolauncher installed.

I just installed FW 3.8.0 on Kobo Touch ("handle update" > "install partial update"). No problems so far.

Hmmm, night mode is not possible with KSM installed, is it?

Hello, I installed the KSM into my Kobo Aura HD with fw 3.8, but multitouch features, like two finger light control, don't work for me. Please, can you help me?

Thanks

It is supposed to work. Did you install the update package?

Do I understand correctly that multitouch features worked in nickel before installing KSM, and stopped working in nickel after installing KSM?

I first installed fw 3.8, after KSM, and after that the kobo multitouch update, but it doesn't work

Oh ok thanks. I installed updates 4.0 and finally 4.1 but in between struggled with a db corruption, so it's possible I missed something...

Also, is it possible to make ksm automatically start nickel rather than having to click on "start nickel" or "start nickel switch koreader" button?

I never tried the multi touch kernel myself. I even do not know what results I can expect on a Kobo Touch. But I don't think that the KSM does affect it in any way. Maybe somebody else who tried to run KSM and the multi touch kernel together, can confirm whether it is working or not.
According to this post it multi touch works with KSM. Did you try the settings described starting with this post?

Does night mode now work? Normally, I do not use night mode, but when I tested it some time ago, it worked if toggled with the key (home key on Touch), but did not work reliably when togged via png.

This is possible, and I have it since several weeks running on my device for test purposes. I will include it in the next version. I am reluctant to provide an update file right now, since the current version with its updates and additional packages is already a little confusing. I think this is the reason why version 4.0 has been downloaded 1164 times, the first update package however only 286 times.

1. About night mode, I didn't try again, since I had the png removed and still it wouldn't work according to your comment. Actually I remember only now about reading it before (working only with physical button) and since mini has no button...

2. That's great news! And well, I think perhaps people are not upgrading to 4.1 because it's said to possibly freeze the device. At least that's the reason why I was a bit reluctant, even though there is also a workaround update.

Can't get a start menu

I'm probably completely brain dead on this ... but I've spend a few hours trying to get the start menu stuff to do anything.

It's been installed according to the instructions in this thread on my new Aura HD, but I don't see anything new when my device boots.

So, either it's not supported on the HD, or (most likely) I'm not looking in the right place ... or I did something wrong.

Like I said, the device does reboot, but no menu or anything. It just boots to the [HOME] page.

The default setting is for it to alternate starting in the Kobo home page and in the Start Menu. If that is it, you should use the slide switch to power off and then start it back up. Once you have the Start Menu up you can go: Scripts>Activate>"set runmenu settings.msh" and set it as you want.

Luck;
Ken

From your description I take that you did not see anything of the Start Menu after installing it. Two possible reasons come to my mind.
1) The original firmware of the first Aura HDs was 2.5 or maybe lower. If your Aura HD is on a firmware lower than 2.6, please upgrade to a higher firmware and reinstall Kobo Start Menu (if you did not remove anything from the first install, you need only to copy the KoboRoot.tgz from the reinstall folder to .kobo and power the device off and on again.)
2) Or maybe you did not copy KoboRoot.tgz to the ".kobo" folder, but rather to the root?

If the Kobo Start Menu appears after installation. Do as Ken said in the previous post. I would recommend to chose the option "always".
