I think this one will be hard to solve but fortunately it is a rare case.
Hi reprep, did you killed the framework before run into the second reboot?

That's bad. If we have to kill framework in DXG, we have to write a screen saver for DXG too. If we evolve in this direction, kpdfview will turn into a kindle OS some day ;P

And given that the KDX has memory of only 128 MB, it could be a good idea to shut the native framework altogether.
Too bad that I bought some mobi books from Amazon before knowing kpdfview. Now I am trapped.

Haven't you received a bonus of additional 128 MB as well?

Do you?
I thought the screen saver is only a gimmick and has no real function on eink devices.

hi dave,

well i didn't have the chance to try the new script. I will try it when i get home. So the framework wasn't killed when i encountered the second kind (the bad kind) of restart.

Also why don't you "free" your books? I've freed my mobis from amazon, and epubs from other sources to be able to read them on CR or Duokan.

Um, that depends on how you define screen saver. If you mean a program that draws a image on the screen, then it is just a gimmick. But I am referring to a program that draws images while at the same time manages power consumption in the background. ;P

Killing the framework will save lots of memories, and with fixes from next release, I guess you should be able to keep the reboot away from you.

Oh, I don't know that I can "free" mobis from amazon, thanks for pointing out that.

Aside from screen change, it does lock keyboard and fiveway, turns off wifi, 3G and LED lightning (if you have cover) so it's useful if you don't want your battery to run out.

However, it might be possible to trigger that power-saving event somehow. If anybody has ides, they are very welcomed.

Shift P K works perfectly well for my kindle DXG with 3.3. Also i should mention i increased the cache size from 5 MB to 15 MB. I did several page forward and page back with a large size pdf with zoom and still no reboot.

and about sleep mode. The only advantage i can think of is to disable 5-way and keys. I really don't think sleep will save much battery. In the end it is the page refresh that eats the battery, right?

So somekind of keyboard lock and release combination will be perfectly fine in my opinion.

Two things concerning filechooser:
1) When navigating in a k3 in landscape mode to folder with 12 pdf files (which actually fills all the space on the screen, but you see all of them), kpdf shows Page 1/2 even though there actually is only Page 1/1.
2) Feature request: Pressing fiveway up when selected the first file it should navigate to the last file on the same page.

first of all, thanks for all your contribution on the new pdf reader.

My kindle dxg3.21(Kindle 3.1 software run on kindle DXG)have got many automatic restart in using the new pdf reader.

The situation was:

1、 quick pageturn
2. Rotate the screen with k,then shift+k(may be in a quick speed)
3. read pdf which based on image after several pagetrun.

All the situaiton lised make my kindle restart automatically
when the screen "freeze" ,then the kindle tree&boy came out.
Sometimes, the screen came back to the new pdfreader home page after restart.

what is the matter of my kindle ,and how can i fix it .

many thanks for the reply.

wait for next release, then use shortcut that exits the framework completely.

Memory pressure is high on a KDX, even more so when you run K3 software. The OOM Killer will hit the framework and voila, "restart" (I don't think it's actually a restart of the device, it's rather a restart of the Amazon framework).

many thanks for your reply

1. I will trying increse the reader cache to 15 MB ,could that helpful ?

2. Well,i try the launchpad shortcut "shift+A" which define as "restart Amazon kindle framework",then "shift +R " define as "reboot".

What the surface difference is the "reboot" show the message "Wait a moment while your kindle starts up" and the "restart framework" not.

As you said, i DID got a "a restart of the Amazon framework"

well ,I can't figure out the real difference ,since finding no topic on it.
(maybe i search it with incorrect keyword)

in addition:

I google "OOM Killer ",and learn more about linux , thx.

Hi, no the cache _increase_ won't help much. You should probably _decrease_ it (set it to a lower value instead).

But if you wait a day or two, the next release should be there. It should come with more sane defaults, I think. And also it will allow for a new launchpad shortcut that will shut down the framework. On the KDX that is probably a better solution for scanned or image-intensive PDFs.
