I probably know the answer to this but: Can you use the superpoints to pre-order a book at kobo?

Probably not? (just a guess) I know coupon codes don't work so...

It's a minor annoyance, but it's still irritating. I got a promotion from Kobo today headed, "Hey, girl. Your eyes should be on these books."

Granted, I'm of the female persuasion, but I ceased to be a girl a long time ago. Is Kobo promoting books to men with the header, "Hey, boy. Your eyes should be on these books"? Why do I think it's highly unlikely ( i.e., flatly impossible)? And in these days of people who identify as transgender, bigender or agender, is this really a productive marketing theme? Why go out of your way to seem insensitive?

That is sooooo hilarious. I deleted that email without opening it BECAUSE it started out "Hey Girl." I know that phrase became popular in the US a few years ago. Maybe it's from a movie. But I hear young ladies use it in greeting. It irritated me not because of the whole female/male thing but because it was too friendly. I only hear it used between friends, calling out to one another, sort of like guys used to call out, 'Hey bro" a while back. It just seemed inappropriately friendly to me so I deleted it without opening it.

It must take a lot of effort for Kobo to be as wrong-headed as it is. I don't think they can be gender-profiling, as I don't read anything that would be typecast as "women's books," which would be a colossally stupid and offensive assumption to make about a customer anyway. And while my first name is typically female, "Brian" isn't! And many names are gender neutral.

Why, Kobo?

Yup, my husband and I both got the same "Hey girl" email. We were equally puzzled that anyone thought that was a good idea. It sounds condescending no matter what gender you identify as. It would only work with a friend who you knew would take it as a joke. Even then you might wanna think twice.

Hey Girl
Hey Girl
Hey Girl

Maybe it's a clever way of selecting the right audience to actually click on the links:

These books are people who don't mind being called "girl".

Or maybe not.

Their analytics can't possibly be that advanced when they can't even verify working promo codes.

I also got the email with hey girl. I wondered how Kobo would determine my gender because my name there is No Way. I looked at my account and you can give them your gender but it's optional. I don't know how they got that info because if I didn't have to give it I wouldn't have. If it was required I usually choose male.

Well, according to the men above, it doesn't matter. They wanted to call everyone "Hey Girl" because they thought it was trendy. Maybe they are using facebooks nascent AI and it came up with the idea! I see a bit of similarity between some of FB's "Great" ideas and this "Hey Girl" one...

As a gay man, I thought it was hilarious. I shared it on Facebook, telling everyone that apparently I'm SOOO GAY that Kobo's algorithm had sent me said email.

I'm almost disappointed to learn it was just their usual lack of attention to details.

My assumption would be this popular meme: http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/people/ryan-gosling

Although, if they don't include Ryan Gosling in it, it doesn't make much sense.

Oh, Kobo.
