You're not using the "Device" view in Calibre are you? That would not, for example, show you books that are in "KFX" format.

Which firmware...I don't know how to find that out. I know that the kindle updated recently, I didn't ask it to do so, it just did it. Calibre is the newest version 2.36

@Tully-
At this point Calibre is not able to work with KFX files....until they get deconstructed and understood, you're out of luck.

Not out of luck; you just have to get the books using a different method, as described a few posts back in this thread.

I do not have Windows.... I have a Mac, Harry. And yes, I am using the Device View in Calibre. I do not know another way. Maybe that is the problem is I need to do it some other way now? It always worked before.

Sorry...correct. I should have been more specific. I was referring to getting Calibre to see them on the Kindle.

(...and the other way is actually not working with kfx files..)

Then substitute whatever the Mac's file manager is called for "Windows Explorer" in my post above.

Harry... I was able to do "Download by USB" and then put them on Calibre.
Had to do that as when I tried sending to Kindle for Mac, it still sent only KFX, too.

That is odd. Are you sure? If so, that could be a sign that Amazon is slowly closing the loopholes in their DRM scheme.

The is almost certainly the new kfx Kindle format. You'll need to download from the website 'for transfer via USB' for your Kindle, which should give your azw3 files that will import into calibre.

Calibre just doesn't know about the new Kindle files.

I'll have to check this, but AFAIK, K4PC does not ask for a folder. It just installs. Most programs that do this install in your C:\Users\Username folder, where your account has 100% access rights. Therefore the program can also download and install updates in the background without you noticing.

I thought only Spotify ignored Microsoft guidelines for where to place programs, but it seems we have another culprit.

Programs should be installed in program files ( or program files x86).
app data folders shoudl be used for config data only, as the name implies

The free cryproprevent utility will not allow programs to install and run from app data unless whitelisted, as that is where most ransomware installs to run its encrypt operations

On the top of my head, Chrome also installs in AppData.
