I recently updated to 6.16 and then have tried to edit the metadate on a file. Yes, it's one after 1/3/23. It's in epub format.

I am able to load it into Calibre and actually can View the book. BUT......

Once I edit any of the metadata into my preferred format, I no longer can view the book in Calibre and it will not convert so the metadata is saved.

My worry is that it's caught in the major glitch with Amazon's new format.... though I got the book from "elsewhere"

Hmmm.... might I ask where you obtained a legitimate epub copy of an Amazon book published after 2023-Jan-03? Inquiring minds are eager to know.

When you open the epub in calibre's editor, does it look like it was previously converted to epub by calibre? page-styles.css and entries in the stylesheet.css that start with .calibre for instance.

Since you can view the book, it does not have DRM. OTOH, since calibre's viewer is overly forgiving, the epub can be riddled with errors. I would suggest installing the epubcheck plugin for calibre's editor and running both calibre's builtin error check (the ladybug looking icon) and epubcheck and correcting any errors that show up. If the book was not previously converted with calibre, you can also try a epub to epub conversion.

I am not at all familiar with Kindle Devices or their nomenclature.

Is there a list by which we can tell that a device will register and work with Kindle that allows the device transfer DRM removal method to work?

I am especially interested in the latest KFX encrypted books.

Download and transfer via USB works with any eink Kindle. Direct pulling from the device only works with Kindles older than 2012 (Kindle Keyboard, basic Kindle from 2011, Kindle Touch from 2011. I'm not sure about the Paperwhite 1 from 2012).

Hi everyone! I'm new here, and very technologically challenged.

So I've been using Kindle 1.23.1 and Calibre 4.23 on my iMac macOS Mojave 10.14.3. I've noticed a while ago that, when I tried to update Calibre and Kindle to the latest update I have issues with converting the book (especially the DRM problem). So I restored my macOS update back to Mojave and the Kindle/Calibre versions I mentioned above.

Currently I'm having problems with my iMac not being able to connect with the wifi. I'm also unable to use some of the applications due to the old macOS version.

I was wondering if it's okay if I update to macOS Ventura. Will I have any problems with Kindle and Calibre? Or will I still be able to use the versions I'm using on my new macOS Venture?

Just to report back: nothing has happened with my K4Mac 1.40.1(65626), no notices, no update alerts — and the Apple App Store still shows this version and not the Kindle for iOS version. However, interestingly, the Audible for iOS app is now available for M1/M2 Macs. I'm not sure when that happened. There was never an Audible for Mac app.

I am getting the same thing for "Download and transfer…"

The option to send the book to my Kindle device does the same thing, which suggests it is a bug, rather than an intentional change.

Right, that button doesn't work for me either. Looks like Amazon engineers broke this part of website. One doesn't lay off 27000 people without consequences.

It may be a staged rollout. It fails for me in both Chrome and Firefox, so I don't think it is a local problem.

Firefox and it works.

When it doesn't work, Download & transfer via USB is not available.

@extesy mentioned contacting Amazon support and them saying it's no longer supported, so that's interesting.
