I would like to point out that the one and only person who has actually been forcibly shut down and/or censored and/or prevented from saying whatever crossed his/her mind...

... is me.
And that was for crossing the line into rudeness.

So, be careful who you accuse of censorship and shutting down discussion, yeah?

Unless, of course, @notimp actually meant he found it "highly disturbing and in essence amoral" that I got moderated during one of my replies to him.
I am not discarding the idea, for all I know he believes in equal-opportunity blanket freedom of speech.

My own first impression of notimp's first post:
Quote:
In Internet slang, a troll (/ˈtroʊl/, /ˈtrɒl/) is a person who sows discord on the Internet by starting arguments or upsetting people, by posting inflammatory,[1] extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community (such as a newsgroup, forum, chat room, or blog) with the deliberate intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[2] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion,[3] often for their own amusement.
Ref: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_troll

Keep in mind, that the O.P.'s original post was made as an off-topic comment in the topmost, hottest, thread of the time.
Obviously picked to get attention and a dead giveaway that the above quoted behavior applied.

Notimp's continued refusal to quote references for the things which are stated as facts only reinforces that first impression.

The style in which the opinions are presented, to include an attack against any differing opinion, often in the same sentence, is not an effective way to conduct a discussion.

= = = =

The above is intended as a summary of my own observations, it is not an "attack" on the person, just one opinion on the style of writing that is in use by one person.

The one bit of slack that I will allow the author, is that it may not be intentional.

I think that's true. Thou shalt not criticize Amazon, etc. Though it's far from being only "mods" doing it. Basically if Amazon is criticized, large numbers of posters emerge and emotionally defend Amazon and attack anyone who criticizes Amazon. Dunno why they do it, but there you are. It's an interesting phenomena in itself.

It would be clear if you considered the audience here.

This is not a cross-section of the general public, only of the relatively few Kindle owners who cared enough to become members.

It is a singularly pointless exercise to come to a Kindle forum and start declaiming your dislike for Amazon. Fine, anyone is entitled to hold any opinion that they wish, and if someone doesn't like Amazon, then that's absolutely fine. Such arguments, though, are extremely unlikely to change anyone's mind, and even less likely to change Amazon's policies, so it's really a complete waste of time. The only sensible advice anyone can offer is "if you don't like Amazon, buy something else". I don't know what this person hopes to achieve, and he seems either unable or unwilling to say.

Now HarryT,
Where else are they supposed to try to find converts?
My personal opinion is so what if a company has a proprietary format. I can either buy theirs or someone else's. Entirely my choice.
So yes a total waste of time on the dislike.
Hey I don't like hominy, should I tell companies not to make it?

Whatever the heck "hominy" is then, as you say, if you don't like it, just don't buy it. It achieves nothing other than to irritate people to go to a "hominy lovers'" forum and proclaim how evil it is.

Hominy is corn soaked in lye.
I have to keep it here as the husband likes it.

And I wouldn't want to irritate hominy lovers.

Don't know what thread you have read, but that is simply not true here. In fact, you are the one that constantly writes oneliners like "thou shalt not criticize amazon". Instead of answering points made by others, you just simply shift the conversation and make accusations. Please, criticize amazon as much as you like. But if someone challenges your view, defend it and not just cry fanboy. This is not about "do you like amazon" but about if one thinks the specific points made by the op are correct or not. I don't have to like amazon, to say, that I don't think the criticism works.

Excellent points.

How about some reasoned arguments from you, Rizla, rather than fatuous one-liners? It is, as Dick rightly says, very noticeable that you're the only person here doing what you accuse others of.

Easy now.
I only live in this part of the country, I didn't grow up here.

I'll let the curious google the receipe for that one.

The primary ingrediant as a noun, has a slang meaning that brings us right back "to today's topic".

I wouldn't have made the connection myself without a lot of thought (and knowing what you used hominy for yourself).
