I don't think the round figures that often show up in karma are at all sinister. The amount a member can award depends on his posting record. I have quite a bit to give away, but I use it judiciously depending on what I feel is the value of a post rather than cutting a corner by offering it all at a click. Very often, just so that a contributor might easily spot by an obvious round figure and recognise that at least someone found a particular post worthy of a pat on the back, I will try to adjust the karma points I give to produce a figure that results in a final zero or two when registered. And I do often award karma to interesting, thought-provoking (sometimes mind-changing) posts contrary to my original thoughts on a point. I didn't know before this thread that there was a way of actually tracking the karma-giver, so I didn't realise it could be a tit-for-tat thing sometimes. So it goes. Karma to all (not it the points-giving sense but merely personal appreciation) to all who've contributed their thoughts to this discussion. Best wishes. Neil |

I tried to give negative karma. It told me not to be such a penny pincher. Now I feel all cheap and dirty.

Well I'm bummed. I read this whole thread and then ran to my karma, eager to see if my number had been boosted as well. Apparently the karma fairy skipped right over me. Sad face.

I've got exactly 100000 Karma, and I'm new here. I hadn't given it the slightest thought before reading this thread. What difference does it make?

For some reason people seem to be more reluctant to give Karma in the more serious threads then in the goofy threadds. I have never understood that myself but it is what it is.

So Karma's basically a meaningless joke.

That said, the sock puppet thing is one of the interwebs most nefarious trolls. Especially among eBooks. There are some "authors" who have, six, seven, ten puppets to bump their amazon reviews "GREAT BOOK!" "Mom lived it!" "This book gave me six "o" faces in a week!" And troll their competition. "Worst. Book. Evar." "I h8 dis." So forth and so on... There's a couple of highly nefarious and well known ones whose names I will not mention because they're like boogeymen. And when you said their name and spin in a circle, they eat your cat and steal your soul. That said, I've been around for a while and can give a pretty decent number of K* Cookies, they usually go to people who make me smile, make me laugh, make a whole lot of sense, or hell...even sometimes make no damn sense at all. | |

No Ben, It's a little thank you card for having a part in our lives. The thank you cards have each and evryone's thank you attached that that person has had thank you cards from as well. So that's why some come with more karma than others. |
