Do it have a lot of TPZ file in amazon platform ?
Test to see if it's tpz before you buy. Download the sample, run the script to DeDRM the sample, if the file is tpz the script will fail with an error saying the file is tpz.

You can see for yourself by d/ling the sample of Glory Road by Robert A. Heinlein. This is a tpz book and will fail as stated.

Because so many people seem to be having problems with DRM-free books, I've updated unswindle to handle them cleanly. Try version 6-rc1 if you're getting the "failed to determine book PID" error.

I think Amazon removed DRM from all samples some time ago (except for TOPAZ which I'm not sure is DRM or just a format only readable on the Kindle).

Thanks, that will cut down on the confusion.

Update: I just tested unswindle version 6-rc1 and it worked great.

Still decrypts perfectly
Still informs if it can't decrypt because it is a topaz book
The cannot find PID error on non-drm books is gone and the copy worked find.

Thanks

For some folks this error occurs because they already had Kindle for PC launched when the script is run. The script goes to execute the app and if it is already open then the error:Failed To Determine Book Path flashes up on the screen.

Maybe i♥cabbages can check for this or expand the error message indicating already having Kindle for PC active is one cause of this error.

I do have a day job, you know . I'm considering that one fairly low priority, but will gladly integrate a patch if someone sends me one.

I think it really depends on what genre you read. I like cozy mysteries. I have at least three series on my wishlist right now that are Topaz, and all of them are at least three books each.

A lot of Children's books only available from Amazon are Topaz. My son loves his Sony, he would love for Topaz to be unDRMed so he could read those books on it.

Just a reminder...

Guys, please remember our policy to not directly link to tools that can be used to break DRM. Also, please don't ask for detailed how-to instruction.

And a Happy Christmas everyone!

I think labba made the news.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/8428126.stm

But could be a different labba, since it seems like the labba here was working on just decryption.

Same labba, but most of the news outlets got it completely wrong (crediting labba for the hack and for unswindle, not mentioning darkreverer and mobidedrm, stating that it's for the Kindle device and not the Kindle for PC application, claiming that it produces PDF files, and so on). It's pretty funny.
