Thanks.

I apologize to everyone for posting the wrong terms and conditions. No excuse, I just didn't read enough of it to realize that it wasn't the one that I wanted.

Good point about how what we have is only a license and not a purchase. I actually knew that, but forgot about it in my haste to write.

My feelings haven't changed however. We had some benefits, privileges, whatever (including downloadability) when we bought the license to each book, and it was taken away from us. Again, I don't know what the law is, but what they've done is patently unfair IMHO.

Thanks.

None of my past purchases are available for download now, apparently.

Very few of my books even have the "download" option at their listings in my Nook library anymore.

When I try to download books which do have the download option, one of two things happens:
1) I get an error message "Unable to download. This item cannot be downloaded from your browser."
2) It looks like the book downloads successfully. However, I get a dialogue(?) box from my ebook reader which tells me "Unlock Code Needed. This computer is not allowed to open xxxxxxxxxxxxx_epub.v2.epub because this item is bound to a provider's account. To open this item on your computer, enter the account username and the unlock code associated with the item, then click on the Open button." Of course, I don't have an account username or unlock code.

I called the (U.S.) number above. Somehow I ended up with technical support. I didn't realize it for about 15 minutes. They were useless, of course, as far as addressing my issue was concerned. Just wanted to give you a heads-up, so that you can get routed to the right department if you call.

Here's an email address that you may try: nook@barnesandnoble.com. I wasn't able to obtain, from anyone, telephone or address contact information for B&N's customer support or public relations.

I also chatted with a B&N rep for about 45 minutes. He basically confirmed what we've already figured out. I asked him to pass along to management my "concern" (complaint).

I've posted too many times in a row on this thread. I'm giving it a rest for a while. In some thinking that I've done, I realized that B&N has become almost an irrelevancy as far as my ebook buying is concerned--I very rarely purchase a license-book from them anymore, sometimes I will take one that's free. I wonder if addressing the download issue any further with them or on this thread is worth my time; I may quit it altogether.

You will not be able to just download most of your books without further steps. There are a number of options for this discussed on this site, including the use of PC programs, an Android app and a greasemonkey script. The Digital Reader even wrote an article about it.

http://the-digital-reader.com/2014/0...es-wont-allow/

If you then want to read your books on anything other than a Nook or a Nook sanctioned application you will need to remove the DRM. You should first satisfy yourself that it is legal to do so in your jurisdiction. If so, search for "Apprentice Alf".

Whoa.
Good thing I've never bought from B&N, despite having a Nook, because they never figured out how to sell internationally (well, maybe in some countries but not here in Russia). Kobo did, so that's where I buy most of my books in English.
Meanwhile across the globe, the biggest Russian e-book store has zero DRM. Could it be we've built communism after all?

While this is a stupid move by Barnes and Noble, There are so many ways to get the books saved to the computer that it just doesn'T matter to me.

I purchased a book from B&N last week, and found this thread after I could no longer download it. I pulled a copy from both the Android app (via USB) and the NOOK for PC application, and can no longer remove the DRM via the plugin in Calibre. Anyone else having this issue?

Read this thread and find the link to the Ghostery script (you will need Firefox and Ghostery) and with that, you will get a download link at B&N's website.

Additionally, I'm pretty sure that B&N files from all sources have exactly the same DRM (at least for now) and the issue that you're having isn't caused by where the file came from. You might want to browse through the comments at Alf's site.

DRM could be different with the Android app just like Kindle DRM is different with Kindle tablets.

Best solution is Greasemonkey and the B&N download link script found earlier on in this thread.

It wasn't when I used it. I used the Android app just fine to backup my books.

I don't think you mean Ghostery. Ghostery is something else, whether it's for Firefox or for Chrome.

With my setup, I get files with the same keys from the PC application on two different PCs, the built-in app on the NOOK HD and the Android app from Google Play.
