I doubt this is the answer you are looking for, but my absolute favourite British composer, Michael Nyman, did once work as a critic, though I've no idea if it was under a pseudonym.

Sorry, no, not Michael Nyman.

This is a tough one unless you are familiar with English music of the mid 20th century. His best known work is the "Capriol Suite". I'll leave it a bit longer in case someone want to have another guess.
