I'll take a guess based on Stitchawl's posts elsewhere and a fact I know about one of the people in that list; were they all fencers?

(Winston Churchill was a fencing champion at Harrow I believe).

Each and every one! Three of them were fencing instructors, including George Peppard, several were collegiate champions, two were national champions, and all were active competitive fencers in local and international competition . Robert Redford even fenced against his producer (or maybe it was the director) on the set of "Butch Cassidy." Danny Thomas was an Olympic back-up for the US team, but never fenced during the games.
