Since it has been a couple hours and we don't have any guesses, I'll give a big hint. The answer has to do with spelling.

Well, I guess it isn't as simple as I thought it would be. The answer is that whoever wrote "big safe" screwed up and meant to write "dig safe". So the sign just meant that it was safe to dig in this spot, and that construction workers in Rhode Island don't know how to spell.
I'll let someone else give it a go and see if they can actually ask us an easy question. P.S. Maybe someone should ask a math question --- you know, based on all the counting. |

I'll try a three parter. I can't promise it's easy!
1. Which town in the North-West of England was the first municipality in the world to have electric street lighting? It also banned the Rolling Stones from performing there following a near riot in 1964, only lifting that ban in 2008. 2. This city is home to both a famous brewery and the fourth largest sports stadium in Europe (in terms of spectator capacity). 3. Linguistically, what links the answers to the above? |

Since I am American I have no idea which towns are in North-West England or anything about European sports stadiums.
So I cheated. I used the computer to bring up a map of North-West England. I think I was able to figure out the answer based on the name of one of the cities I see on the map and on knowledge from my heritage. Good quiz Bilbo. |

1. Blackpool
2. Newcastle 3. I must have one or both wrong, because I can't answer this one. |

1. North-West England and electric light naturally leads to Blackpool (and the "illuminations". They got in with that new-fangled street lighting just a few years ahead of the New Zealand town of Reefton - and pdurrant got in just ahead of me.
![]() 2. Dublin (home of Guinness). 3. The names mean the same. Last edited by Shayne Parkinson; 11-05-2012 at 04:01 PM. |
