9. Superstition about the number 13? (His books never have a chapter 13.)
Colour-blindness ("Shades of Grey")? A wildly active imagination? (I'm guessing wildly myself. I love his books so I'm interested to find out the answer!) |

The first one is correct. He suffers from Triskaidekaphobia and writes many of his books without Chapter 13.

Well the question actually says a point each for author and name of the novel, which is what you got. What I meant to say was a point each for the character and the book (still only 2 points - knowing that Dickens was the author is just too easy). Have to be cruel to be kind...

State of play:
1. Which author was working as a journalist trying to track down a serial killer before realising one of her friends was the perpetrator? Extra point for the name of the book she wrote based on the experience. Ann Rule - Dreams Name of book still outstanding. 2. Which author was born on the day Halley's Comet first appeared in 1835? During his lifetime he joked that he would die when it returned. He was true to his word, passing away in 1910 on the day of the comet's next appearance. Mark Twain - Stitchawl 3. Who was so admired by his hometown of Dorset that when he died the community rallied to have him buried there? The literati however, thought he deserved a burial at Westminster Abbey. In the end his body was interned at the London landmark, while his heart was kept in a small casket in a Dorset churchyard. Thomas Hardy - Bookpossum 4. Which novelist landed a lucky break when his luggage was lost during a stopover in New York? It was August 8, 1969 and he was on his way to spend a night with Sharon Tate and other friends. Turns out the glitch in his travel plans saved his life as it was the very night that Charles Manson and his disciples attacked Tate. An extra point for the name of the novel he wrote about his experience. Jerzy Kosinski, Blind Date - Fbone 5. Which author wrote to his editor to ask how they were finding the manuscript (of his now famous work), and simply wrote, '?'. The publisher replied, '!'. 6. Tiny Tim, A Christmas Carol - Stitchawl (2 points) 7. Pride and Prejudice wasn't always known by that title. When Jane Austen's father submitted an early version of her second novel, what was it called? First Impressions - Bookpossum 8. The famous author of Robinson Crusoe changed his name in 1703 from what to Defoe? Daniel Foe - Stitchawl 9. What condition does author Jasper Fforde suffer from, and what impact does this have on many of his books? Triskaidekaphobia (fear of #13) - Bookpossum 10. Trimalchio in West Egg; Among Ash-Heaps and Millionaires; On the Road to West Egg; Under the Red, White, and Blue; and The High-Bouncing Lover were all titles considered for which famous work? Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald - issybird So only 1 point available for #1 and #5 remaining. I'll give the answers in the morning if no one has guessed them.
