Jump! It's fun! Jump! It's easy. Jump! We love to play Parcheesi!
Where can I get some harem girls? That seems like much more fun than checkers. Stitchawl Last edited by Stitchawl; 02-04-2011 at 08:16 PM. |

That's what my wife said too. Were you guys in collaboration?
![]() OK... another mystery for you all. This time... The Case of the Dead Man's Medals The death of John Marks II, one of the world's leading philanthropists, was a sad loss to many people. Marks was the only child of a former governor. Although a bachelor himself, he had devoted his life to the welfare of children all over the world. Dr. Haledjian was one of the many who attended the funeral at Marks's home on the hottest day of the year. After he had viewed the body in the bedroom, the famous sleuth went through the hot, crowded living room and into the library. In the library were displayed the various medals and honors that Marks had received for his work with children. Some of the medals were set with jewels and worth thousands of dollars. Haledjian had just nodded at the uniformed guard in the room when somebody shouted for a doctor. Immediately Haledjian and the guard rushed into the living room, which was in a state of confusion. A young man wearing a dark suit was carrying a young lady in his arms toward the front door. The girl appeared to have fainted. When the photographer from the local paper came up, the young man looked annoyed. He said impatiently: "Please, no pictures. This is the deceased's niece, Vivian Farns. Just let me get her outside into the fresh air." Haledjian quickly told the guard to stop the two of them from leaving. Then he ran back into the library, where he was just in time to stop a thief from getting away with the valuable collection of medals. How did Haledjian know there was a robbery going on? Stitchawl |

From the 15th century onwards, European powers searched endlessly, and futilely, for the fabled Northwest Passage, which would shave almost 6000 miles off their route to reach Cathay and all of the riches of the Far East. And also avoid conflict with the established Spanish and Portuguese maritime powers that controlled the Cape of Good Hope and the Straits of Magellan.
In 1524 the French sent Verrazano to the east coast of North America. There he claimed to "discover" the Pacific ocean across a narrow isthmus of land, claiming that the North American continent was pinched in at this point, allowing him to see the Pacific Ocean. Where was he? And what did he really see? |

A bridge that connects Staten Island and Brooklyn in New York City which he named after himself?
I grew up in NYC, so we learned a lot about the various explorers along the eastern seaboard. Verrazano, Hudson, Cabbot, etc. Verrazano did most of his mistake making south of there, along North Carolina and the Outer Bank islands south of Chesapeake Bay. I know that he never actually found the Cheseapeake Bay itself though he thought that Pamlico Sound (the waters on the other side of the Outer Banks islands) was the beginning of the Pacific. You are entirely too well educated! He indeed landed at Cape Hatteras and "discovered" the Pacific Ocean, errr.... the Pamlico Sound!
Your turn! |

I didn't start sleeping in class until Junior High.
OK... this one will require a bit of a stretch... James T., the capt. of the Enterprise of Star Trek fame has the usual left ear and right ear but he also has a third ear. What is his third ear called? And just for extra credit, what does the 'T' in is name stand for? Stitchawl |

Well, I was going to say the Star Fleet badge communicators, but they didn't have those in Kirk's time... Making a play on his middle name, maybe?

No, no play on his middle name. (BTW, Tiberius is correct.) It's more a play on the opening of the show. And as I said before, it's a bit of a reach.

I think everyone is asleep right now. Make your wake-up guess when you get in, and I'll post the answer in about three hours.

Theodore is my guess for his third ear's name.

I think it's space, the final front-ear.
