I'm with you. I will NEVER wade in the sea without some sort of soled footwear. Between sea urchins, stonefish, sharp coral (which often carries serious infectious material) there is just too much out there that can ruin a good holiday! I had difficulty getting a photo of just one of these critters alone, and it took me a few minutes to figure out which was the front end. When wreck diving in the Philippines, the decks of most of the ships were shoulder to shoulder (fin to fin?) with them! We'd be swimming along the companionway inside a wreck and under us would be a solid floor of stonefish. It's times like that which make 'buoyancy control' a really critical issue...

So Far;

10.
9.
8. Polar Bear - Red Phoenix +1/2 Shayne
7. Elephant - Daithi
6. Salt Water Crocodile - Bilbo
5.
4. Great White Shark - Bookpossum
3. Box Jellyfish - Shayne
2. ? Cobra - Poohbear
and the most Dangerous
1. Mosquito - Shayne

OK... some hints... Two are in Africa, one is very small and is in South America

I will say right now that I don't agree with this list... But it's the one that I happened to copy when I was rushing to find a question. It mixes too many criteria to be accurate.

I was going to say sea urchin but I don't think that follows Stitchawl's clues.

Tree frog? Little green thing. I think this is the one Sneaky is thinking of?

African Elephant?

Is that the one they make the poison for poison darts from? That's what I'd guess.

EDIT: I think I just duplicated Sneaky Snake's answer - sorry, no despicable stealing intended!

How about the Cape Buffalo?

And Bilbo gets number 9, the Cape Buffalo!

10. Poison Dart frog - Sneaky with name help from Daithi
9. Cape Buffalo - Bilbo
8. Polar Bear - Red Phoenix +1/2 Shayne
7. Elephant - Daithi
6. Salt Water Crocodile - Bilbo
5. Lion - Orlok
4. Great White Shark - Bookpossum
3. Box Jellyfish - Shayne
2. ? Cobra - Poohbear
and the most Dangerous
1. Mosquito - Shayne

Pooh, I'm with you. I don't think this list is accurate, but it's what I found when I went looking. The bite of the sea snake is much more poisonous than that of the Asian Cobra, but not as many people get bit by it. And I think Great Whites account for more deaths per year than Lions! But...

Anyway, it looks like Shayne with her two points is the winner, but somebody better check my math! It's my bed time and can't do numbers even when I'm awake!

Well in my opinion including mosquitoes in inaccurate as mosquitoes do not cause deaths, they are only vectors for microbes that do causes death; e.g. yellow fever or malaria.

That and if one wants to cite the most deadly animal to mankind, excluding his fellow man, it would be Fido, or Rex, or . . .. That's correct I think it would be man's best friend. For example for 1979 to 1988 dogs caused at least 332 human deaths in the US alone. http://enhs.umn.edu/current/6120/bit...bitefatal.html

Over the same period the number of deaths in the US due to great white shark attacks was 3. http://www.jawshark.com/great_white_...untry_usa.html
