Once one knows the answer, it's very difficult to hear this song without hearing "elephant's ears".

I assume it's a reasonably well-known song? I am having a hard time coming up with songs in languages other than French which Anglophones know. German? Spanish? I'm still thinking.

I'm thinking Spanish, something that starts with "el" or "la"?

Yes, well-known, and quite old. A romance language, but not French or Spanish. The title is occasionally translated (by those of a certain mindset) as "The Lady has her Phone".

Well done, issy! I don't have one for guessing, just to share as it's rather sweet.
I heard someone on the radio some time ago talking amongst other things about his son going to school and being expected to join in with the rest of the class in singing "Advance Australia Fair". He didn't actually know the words but was helped along by his fellow students. There were several manglings on the way through, but the one that stuck with me was his turning "Our land abounds in nature's gifts" into "Our land is bound in nature strips". Pretty accurate for the suburbs of our cities! |

What is a Sorcerer's Stone?
Multiple Choice:
a. Nothing b. Marketing c. Both of the above The answer of course is c., and the reference is to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, said title being dumbing down for the American audience of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. Many books for the Anglophone market have different titles in different countries. Sometimes it's dumbing down, sometimes to avoid unfortunate local associations, and most often for it-beats-the-hell-out-of-me reasons. I'm listing ten renamed books; name the original title and the author. 1. The Golden Compass 2. Roasting in Hell's Kitchen 3. The Beloved Returns 4. Elected Silence 5. Murder on the Orient Express 6. Down Under 7. The Legacy 8. The Ghosts of Belfast 9. Cross Stitch 10. Cantata-140 |

1. Northern Lights
5. [Didn't know it had a different name -- I just know And Then There Were None had two different names. Each a little less racist than the previous one.] |
