Okay, here's a literary one. No numbers at all, Stitchy! Some are easier than others.
Name the authors who failed to finish writing: 1. Weir of Hermiston 2. The Mystery of Edwin Drood 3. The Watsons 4. The Ivory Tower 5. Wives and Daughters 6. Denis Duvall 7. The Poodle Springs Story 8. Emma 9. Slattery's Sago Saga 10. The History of England from the Accession of James II |

![]() I said "2" to myself when answering, and wrote down "1." Even looking at it afterwards didn't spark any idea that I'd screwed up. That's the story of my Numbers life! Oh well... I didn't have a good question ready anyway! ![]() Stitchawl |

1. Robert Louis Stevenson (pdurrant) 2. Charles Dickens (pdurrant) 3. Jane Austen (Billi) 4. Henry James (Stitchawl as his first number 5) 5. Elizabeth Gaskell (Stitchawl) 6. William Makepeace Thackeray (Shayne) 7. Raymond Chandler (Stitchawl) 8. Charlotte Bronte (Shayne) 9. Flann O'Brien (Issybird) 10. Lord Macaulay (Issybird) So the scores are: 3 Stitchawl 2 pdurrant 2 Shayne 2 Issybird 1 Billi A special mention for pdurrant for suggesting D H Lawrence for "Wives and Daughters" - a prequel to "Sons and Lovers"? And an elephant stamp for Issy for getting the last two, which I think were the toughest ones. So you did win after all, Stitchy! But if you want someone else to go in your place, over to Paul, Shayne or Issy. |

Yes, someone else please do take it. And don't hesitate to ask Math questions if that is your wish. As you see from this one, I don't need Math to screw up. I'm multi-dysfunctional.

OK, here's another puzzle panel question.
I blindfold you and give you a stack of coins. I tell you how many of them are heads upwards. Then I ask you to put the coins into 2 stacks each having the same number of heads up. How do you do it? |

Assuming it's an even number of coins, and they're all heads up?

Even or odd number of coins makes no difference. No, it's by no means guaranteed that they're all heads up.
It's possible to do this no matter what the number of coins (well, more than one!) or number that are heads up. |

I don't see how it's possible unless there are an even number of heads-up coins.
Do you put the two stacks one on top of the other, so the combined stack has the same number of h-up coins? |
