Correct! As you say many versions, but first written and recorded by Morrison back when he was till in the group Them. Another point for you.

So I will leave it overnight and see where things are tomorrow before supplying some help for any not yet answered.

I suck at these music lyrics questions. For years I thought it was "Excuse me while I kiss this guy" by Jemi Hendrix, "Radar Love" by I have no idea, and I still want to know who this Bruce guy is that E.L.O. is singing about.

Surely is was "Radar Love"? (by Golden Earring).

There is even a name for that confusion. It's called a mondegreen, and that line by Jimi Hendrix is one of the more famous examples. Perhaps the most famous example is from Manfred Mann's Earth Band version of Blinded by the Light where “revved up like a deuce” is often heard as “wrappped up like a douche”.

Update with some hints for the yet unanswered. I will be out at a remote job site until this afternoon. So I well answer any not correctly guessed by then and turn it over to whoever has the most points at that point.

A. "Walkin' down my street
Comes up to my house"

G-L-O-R-I-A (poohbear_nc) by Van Morrison (poohbear_nc)

B. "But I'll teach my eyes to see
beyond these walls in front of me"

Trapped (Stitchawl) by ???? Bruce Springsteen did cover this.
Hint: Originally written and recorded by a reggae great.

C. "I've never seen a night so long
When time goes crawling by"
Hint: This actually was released before I was even born by an artist that is an icon for his music genre.

D. "Her arms are wicked, and her legs are long"

Hello I Love You (poohbear_nc) by The Doors (poohbear_nc)

E. "When I've walked in the garden
When I'm walking off stage"
This female artist was quite popular during the golden age of MTV, when it was about music videos. She also made a very controversial appearance on the television program Saturday Night Live back then.

F. "Baby, I don't want you, but I need you"
You Really Got A Hold on Me (pooh_bear_nc) by Smoky Robinson (poohbear_nc)

G. "Beatniks are out to make it rich"

Season of the Witch (Stitchawl) by Donovan (Stitchawl)

H. "I am an old woman
Named after my mother"

Angel from Montgomery (issybird) by ??? Bonnie Rait released a nice cover
Hint: Originally written and recorded by a man, despite what the lyrics would imply.

I. "Well, go on now and kiss it goodbye,
But hold on to your lover,
'Cause your heart's bound to die."
Hint: Any fans of the television program Northern Exposure might recall that this song played over the closing credits of the final episode. The female pop country artist has a very distinctive voice.

J. "Well, I heard Mr. Young sing about her"

Sweet Home Alabama (Shayne Parkinson) by Lynyrd Skynyrd (Shayne Parkinson)

K. "Your never ending presence really cramps my style
I dream that it won't always be the same"
Hint: This may be the most obscure to many. The artist and his backup band blended everything from pop, 1940's swing, jazz, to country in his music. There was often a touch of humor in his songs, as with this one.

L. "Keep you doped with religion and sex and TV"
Working Class Hero (SneakySnake) by John Lennon ( SneakySnake)

Shayne Parkinson : 2 points

Stitchawl: 3 points

poohbear_nc: 6 points

issybird: 1 point

SneakySnake: 2 points

E. From the hint, it must be Sinead O'Connor - but I have no clue as to the song.

It's kind of scary how many oldies lyrics I've got swimming in my long term memory.

I've loads of them. What is worse though is when I want to recall a song it is then that the memory chooses to go and hide until long after I lose interest.

Yes

Understandable guess, but no.

So I figure that everyone who wishes has had their crack at this. Revealing the unknowns:

A. "Walkin' down my street
Comes up to my house"
G-L-O-R-I-A (poohbear_nc) by Van Morrison (poohbear_nc)

B. "But I'll teach my eyes to see
beyond these walls in front of me"
Trapped (Stitchawl) by Jimmy Cliff

C. "I've never seen a night so long
When time goes crawling by"
I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry (poohbear_nc) by Hank Williams (poohbear_nc)

D. "Her arms are wicked, and her legs are long"
Hello I Love You (poohbear_nc) by The Doors (poohbear_nc)

E. "When I've walked in the garden
When I'm walking off stage"
Just Like You Said It Would Be by Sinead O'Connor (poohbear_nc)

F. "Baby, I don't want you, but I need you"
You Really Got A Hold on Me (pooh_bear_nc) by Smoky Robinson (poohbear_nc)

G. "Beatniks are out to make it rich"
Season of the Witch (Stitchawl) by Donovan (Stitchawl)

H. "I am an old woman
Named after my mother"
Angel from Montgomery (issybird) by John Prine (issybird)

I. "Well, go on now and kiss it goodbye,
But hold on to your lover,
'Cause your heart's bound to die."
Our Town by Iris Dement

J. "Well, I heard Mr. Young sing about her"
Sweet Home Alabama (Shayne Parkinson) by Lynyrd Skynyrd (Shayne Parkinson)

K. "Your never ending presence really cramps my style
I dream that it won't always be the same"
How Can I Miss You When You Won't Go Away? by Dan Hicks and his Hot Licks

L. "Keep you doped with religion and sex and TV"
Working Class Hero (SneakySnake) by John Lennon ( SneakySnake)

Shayne Parkinson : 2 points

Stitchawl: 3 points

poohbear_nc: 8 points

issybird: 2 point

SneakySnake: 2 points

So it is now poohbear_nc who will offer something more tractable.

Woo Hoo! Never would have expected to win a song lyric quiz! All those hours spent listening to my transistor radio finally paid off!

OK - since we're having so much fun with these multiple part questions, let's do ..... geography! .... unreal geography .... fictional geography!

The following list contains the names of fictional islands that were created as part of a written fictional work (novel, short story, etc.). For each island name, identify the book title and the author. The winner will be whomever scores the most points!

1. Alca/Penguin Island
2. Bali Ha'i
3. Blefuscu
4. Caprona, a.k.a. Caspak
5. Devon Island
6. Esme, a.k.a. Isle Esme
7. Hedeby
8. Indian Island
9. Kinakuta
10. Leshp
11. Mardi archipelago
12. Moahu
13. Roke Island
14. San Lorenzo
15. Tsalal
16. Kokovoko

Feeling really smart? Extra credit for these:
1. Abarat archipelago
2. Dolphin Island
3. Lincoln Island
4. Pala
5. Paradise Island
6. Saint Honore
7. San Monique
8. San Piedro Island
9. Ship-Trap Island

Take out your imaginary atlases and begin your journeys!
