OK, though I hate to admit I don't remember the Barberton Greenstone Belt. Was probably surreptitiously reading a book inside my desk on the day they taught us about that one...
"Thuma, Towcher, Long-man, Lech-man and Little-man are Old and Middle English names for which parts of the human body?" |

Forgoing the obvious (salacious) guess, I'll guess "tongue"?

Tongue firmly in cheek, I'll guess "thumb"
Although, casting my mind back to Chaucer, I think I remember "lech" as the derivative for "lych" as in "lych-gate" - referring to death of the body, so second guess = "body" or "trunk" |

To me Poohbear's guess of thumb was close to what I would say seems an obvious guess. That being the fingers, or four fingers and thumb, of a person's hand?

As an addendum to this, the question appeared in an episode of the highbrow UK quiz show "University Challenge". The anwer given was "p*nis", to which the host replied "You're a medical student. How many p*nises did they teach you a man has in your University?!".

Wow! Once you visualize a hand - the names make sense!
OK - a Peke just won best in show at the Westminster Dog show. The Pekinese is recognized as one of the oldest dog breeds, and in terms of DNA analysis, one of the least genetically diverged from the wolf. DNA testing of AKC registered breeds (currently recognizing 167 breeds) has revealed 14 "most ancient" dog breeds. Who can name 5 breeds on this list? |

OK I cheated and Googled it, but I have to say I was surprised, both by some of the breeds on the list, but more so by some that are not!

I'm not cheating (yet), so I'm sure I'll be way off, but here are my guesses--
Akita Basenji Malamute Mastiff Belgian Shepherd German Shepherd Irish Wolfhound |

Since the Malamute was one I'm going to try the Siberian Husky also. I'd actually meant to write that one but forgot. The malamute and husky remind me the most of a wolf. I'm surprised the Irish Wolfhound and shepherds didn't make the list. And since the Basenji made the list I'll also throw out the Dingo, but I have a feeling it's not an AKC breed.
