Microsoft and some font packaged software from the days when you used to have to install fonts?

I think Apple adopted TrueType before MS, but I've know idea who invented it.

Exactly so! Adobe had the PostScript 'Type 1' fonts, the format of which was a deep, dark secret, and charged a lot for licensing PostScript and the fonts and tools to create the fonts.

So Apple came up with TrueType - a completely different font format, which has now evolved into OpenType.

I think it's safe to say that without TrueType, Adobe's Type 1 font format wouldn't have become public knowledge as quickly as it did.

Anyone remember what Microsoft gave to Apple in return for a perpetual license to the TrueType format?

After all, TrueType's quite a big deal, and is known by everyone interested in computer fonts. Presumably Apple got something that's still pretty important?

Well, no.

Microsoft' part of the cross-licensing deal was TrueImage - a clone PostScript interpreter. No-one's ever used it that I'm aware of.

Sigh.... Apple still hadn't learned that in any deal with Microsoft, they'll get the short end of the stick.

Bonus question: Where did negotiations begin on the treaty's final round, in which it was replaced by the WTO?

The GATT (General Agreement on Tarriffs and Trade).

Can't answer the bonus question, though.

Right you are, issybird. The final round commenced in Uruguay in 1986 and was called the Uruguay Round. Those negotiations resulted in the World Trade Organization, which began on January 1, 1995. And the rest is corporate history.

Here goes. Before the Treaty of San Francisco, which ended the Second World War with Japan, there had been one other treaty signed in the USA ending an international conflict. Where was it signed and which war did it end?

I don't know where, but could it have been a treaty ending the 1812 war with the British Empire?
