I'm thinking "kilowatt", but that's more a powerful question than a weighted one.

Since Snakey's not here at the moment, I'll hope my answer was right and post a new question. It has a long-winded set-up, so you may wish to get a coffee (or alternative) first.

The Maori language (te reo Maori) only has 14 letters in its written form. Here are the consonants in Maori:

g (only in form "ng"), h, k, m, n, p, r, t, w (both by itself and in "wh")

You'll see from this that several consonantal sounds don't exist in Maori. Another aspect of the language is that all words end with a vowel.

So when personal names in other languages (most often English) are transliterated into Maori, the result can end up looking very different. An example of a name that's relatively unchanged is Peter, which becomes Pita. One that changes a lot is David, which becomes Rawiri.

So what do you think might have been the European name that became one I quite often come across: Irihapeti?

actually, Mr. Google did all the job, he even offered me a whole list of Mauri names and its translation into normal names

Yes, it's better not to use google in the Quiz thread, as it makes it much too easy.

I don't use Google if the question is like "what is the next number in the series..." or "odd one out" or something from an ordinary IQ test

however, in this case HOW ON EARTH do you think I can do to figure the name out??

just like asking you to think of a meaning of a word from a foreign language which you know next to nothing about, right? then this is not really a "quiz"... at least IMHO. Intelligence obviously can do nothing.

I just thought it might be a fun question for people to figure out the pattern where one letter maps to another, but you're probably right that it wasn't a good one for the quiz. That's fine, it was worth a try.

But if you hadn't told me you'd used google I would've just thought you were super-fast.
