Pear is also somewhat close.

This fruit is in the same family as apples, pears and medlars.

Yes! Well done, Sneaky.

"Marmalade" is from the Portuguese name for the quince, marmelo. The original marmalade was a sort of thick quince jelly, but in more recent centuries it's become associated with citrus fruit.

We have a quince tree, and we make quince paste and jelly. And just occasionally quince marmalade.
