Thanks, Possum, that's my sort of quiz!
Yes, have at it, everyone - I wouldn't get around to setting one before tomorrow, anyway. |

I think we all know by now that we don't stand a chance on a literary quiz if Shayne gets there first

A movie quiz: each of these sets of three movies has something in common. Please identify what that something is.
1. Shine (1996) [Piano Concerto No. 3] Brief Encounter (1945) [Piano [Concerto No. 2] Birdman (2014) - The use of music by Rachmaninoff. Bookpossum. 1 point for correct link; 2 bonus points for identifying the particular piece of music in Shine and Brief Encounter. 2. Good Will Hunting (1997) Syriana (2005) The Fighter (2010) 3. The Thirty-Nine Steps (1935) Kind Hearts and Coronets (1949) The Pink Panther (1963) [John Le Mesurier] - Each includes an actor who later appeared in "Dad's Army". Orlok 1 point for correct link; 1 bonus point for Le Mesurier. Notes: - I imagine they all have quite a few things in common, but in each case I'm after something in particular. As is usual, the quizmaster's decision is final. ![]() - each set has something different in common. One is reasonably easy (IMO); the other two, not so much. Clues will be forthcoming as necessary. 1. I haven't seen Birdman, but my guess from the other two films is the use of music by Rachmaninov in the soundtrack - Piano Concerto No 3 for Shine, and No 2 for Brief Encounter.
I think I know 2. but will leave for others. No 3. has me intrigued! |

Just before I head for bed, a clue:
The answers for sets 2 and 3 both relate to the actors involved. |

2. Both Good Will Hunting (1997) and Syriana (2005) had Matt Damon as an actor. He was also planned for The Fighter (2010) but was later dropped out due to scheduling conflicts, and Christian Bale was taken in.
Not sure it being the common factor for all three movies - just playing a hunch. ![]() |

3. All had actors who appeared in Dad's Army? I know John Le Mesurier was in the Pink Panther.

You're quite correct: the link for Set 3 is that each film has an actor who later appeared in "Dad's Army". Bonus points are available for the other actors' names for anyone who'd like to try - without the help of Mr Google or Mr IMDB, please. ![]() |

Well I'll make a guess at Arthur Lowe and Clive Dunn - not sure which of the other two films they may have been in though.
