Neither is correct. We're looking for kidlit titles only here - obviously the second is a play on Bulwer-Lytton, but's it's also the first line of a children's book which is quite well known, at least in the USA.

I had to kill my brain to come up with because Avonlea is a town in Saskatchewan and the Canadians made a TV show called The Road to Avonlea so for some reason I forget the real source.

Well, older child. Not written as such, but it seems to be in the children's classics canon, now.

As for the rest, all correct.* Four more points to HIMS and two to pdurrant.

*Except for the Snoopy's novel bit. It really is very well known.
