At some point during the night a mouse (I strongly suspect it was just the one, there wasn't enough, um, evidence to suggest there's been more) got in the kitchen, got ONTO the worksurface, and availed themselves of the one foil-wrapped chocolate that was sitting there not in a box.

The first I knew of it was when I moved some bits to clear enough (I need at least three times the amount of space clear to do pastry than I actually use) worksurface to wash so I could roll pastry out and found shredded foil wrapping. And then other evidence

The only things the poxy mouse had touched was the one chocolate, and paused to take a nibble out of an instruction leaflet (that I'd forgotten I still had, as I no longer have the gadget it tells me how to use!). That's it. The bread was untouched (but went in the bin anyway), the box of chocolates and the box of barfi were untouched (thankfully - I needed something sweet at that point!), everything else - untouched. Even the toaster cable.

So apart from a brief stop for pizza (the pie making can wait until tomorrow now) I've spent all evening bleaching and disinfecting my kitchen (all three smallish worksurfaces of it); and blocking the only possible way the blasted thing could have got up.

Why do Gadgets stop working at the most inopportune times

Either when you need it most, or when the replacement is on the way, but you need it to just limp along for a couple of more days .

Or both

My Phone just conked out completely, just before our New Year and the replacement while ordered a week ago is not arriving for a few days.

Now I have over 60 SMS's from friends which I Can't identify let alone answer as I don't have their Numbers stored on the el cheapo phone I keep around to use with my other SIM.

So I'm going to have to compare the numbers from each message with my contacts in outlook to find out who sent it (as I have a completely crap memory for numbers. took me a year to remember my own )before I can reply.

My vent.

Moronic recruiters!!! I get a call an hour ago about a programming contract. Great, I'm between contracts and open to offers. This recruiter doesn't know anything about the language being recruited for. I have to spend 20 minutes explaining to the moron what the moron is trying to recruit for! The moron can't seem to find it on Google, and doesn't know anything that hasn't been around for the last 5 years! And this person want to get 25% of my billing rate??? Bloody bastich!!!!

Unfortunately, they are illegal as pets in some places, like NYC.

I was amused a while back when a friend recounted that someone had put out poison in her neighborhood, and killed off the feral cat population. Of course, the rat population soared.

Suddenly, all of the locals that bought Jack Russell terriers because they were cute little dogs sized for Manhattan apartments discovered what else they were...
