I contacted Minh Truong who is my contact with Aldiko, and I pointed him to this thread.
Let's just wait and see, in the meantime if you have any request that would make your waiting more pleasant - other than me rewriting Aldiko ![]() All best, David. |

Stanza seems to make a Subject out of each tag, which you can see on the Groups section of the library, which is very handy. Whatever is in the OPDS that makes it do that, could also have a similar entry for the Series name?
I can't view the XML from here, alas, so I can't point to the exact element that controls this, but I did just download a book and the tag "Novel" was automatically created as a Subject. |

Stanza does not understand the concept of Series! Probably because the ePub standard does not yet specify a way of handling series information.
In my Calibre2Web program what I did was add the Series information to the Summary data in the gereated XML catalogs. This was not ideal as it meant you had to load the book and looks at its info to find out this information. My brother who reads a lot of series found it was easier to go to the generated online catalog and browser the series sub-section from there. The ideal solution would be a relase of Stanza that does recognise series in some way - but that is dependent on LexCycle. The current treatment you mention in Stanza relies on the tags being embedded into the books metadata. You could do this yourself in calibre. I do not see how Calibre2Opds could do this as it does not touch book content. Last edited by itimpi; 02-23-2010 at 07:35 AM. |

As promised, I contacted Minh with Aldiko and he answered promptly ; here is his message : Oui tout à fait, désolé de ne pas avoir été suffisament clair; cette fonctionalité est toujours d'actualité et nous espérons l'inclure dans la prochaine version. Cette dernière a subit quelques délais dus a divers problèmes causés par d'autres modifications. and a translation ![]() Yes indeed, sorry about not being clear enough ; this feature is still in the pipe and we hope to include it in the next release. It (the next release) is experiencing a few setbacks due to diverse problems caused by other modifications. I think that he means : wait until the next version of Aldiko, and you'll be able to import your ODPS feed ! Isn't it great ?All best, David. |

That does not work. Stanza looks inside the epub file for the tag information.

What I could do is extend the functionnality of the program (or write another) to make it access and change the metadata.opf file inside the ePub file ...
It's complex, I'll have to write a complete parser to make sure the program understands the file content, and then a GUI to allow edition ; but it's cool nonetheless... Maybe if I have too much time ![]() |

would it not be easier, just to let people use Calibre (run the convert ebooks option) and that then writes to the epubs metadata.opf file.

Well, it would be easier... for me ...
![]() But I cannot count on the people wanting to re-generate their books ; in fact, from my personal experience, it is often a bad thing to do, as things such as book jacket page and other stuff get duplicated... Sometimes, I wish I had an ePub metadata editor... Maybe it's time I wrote one ? |

I didn't realise that the tags were lurking in the ePub itself, I thought they just existed in the Calibre database.
The easiest thing to do then is simply for me to add the Series as a tag as well. That doesn't require any changes anywhere, just a bit of copy and paste for me. |

Series info on website view
Hi
After few days of using your program I have noticed that i am missing one feature according series (yes again about series ![]() When you browse books under author label you do not know which one does not belong to series. Pop-up window is not enough. Can you add right after author name info about series and number in it? Cheers |

I'm not sure I understand exactly what you are requesting ; can you be more specific, maybe give me an example ?
