For the T1, you copy the PRS-T1 Updater.package file to the /READER/ folder over USB. Then, you hold down the home and menu buttons while the reader boots up. Maybe the folder and buttons combination is different, but it wouldn't hurt to try something similar on the DPT-S1. At worst, it just wouldn't do the update.

Which Windows version do you have? 32bit or 64bit, Vista, XP, 7, 8, 8.1?
I can try do download and extract it and then upload the extracted files for you if it's not to big for my box account.

In case you're referring to the problem I had: I fixed it by borrowing a PC, thanks. I use Linux, not Windows

This is the main reason I bought this device. Reading from backlit LCD is eye stressful and carrying a pile of papers is no fun too. And I actually found that I'm more focus on reading when the computer is out of sign.

Hello all,

I have had the Sony a few months now and wanted to give a (former post) correction and some impressions.

1. WebDev syncs only from the Sony-DPT to Box, one way. It does NOT sync from Box.com (Webdev) to the Sony-DPT. (I was mistaken in an earlier post.)

2. My largest annoyance is the Zoom function. It takes me multiple attempts to zoom, most of the time-sometimes not??, and the zoom is not like a tablet, not as smooth.

3. Unable to Highlight once zoomed in, only the 'Pen-line' marking is an option. I would like to be able to zoom and highlight.

4. Not having a dimable backlight sucks. It means you always need an alternative light source, something, the sun, and headlamp, bed light, flashlight, etc. A backlight would change this device drastically.

5. The note-taking is awesome. I just finished two months of Coast Guard classes and did not even use paper. The writing pad was returned to the instructor and the end of each class (3) unused. No lag when writing, text and drawn pictures are perfect. I was even able to get digital copies of each textbook and load these onto the DPT after the first class day. This means all my classes were done solely on the DPT, switching between highlighting and note-taking in the textbook and switching between the notepad, depending on what I was doing. Amazing!!!

Other then some small annoyances, the device is good and the best tech purchase I have made since a laptop and smartphone. There is room for improvement but this is a large leap in productivity for me. I use this device daily and I have thousands of PDF's (engineer). I am reading everyday now and before I had this Sony I was reading short pieces and monthly periodicals. Now I am devouring books and adding my notes to every page, all carried over to Acrobat on a PC.

Recommended, unless you know V2 is coming out. Then I'd wait.

Has anyone managed to link the device to Sharefile by enabling the sharefile icon. I have followed log in /setup instructions but it does not work

The DAV option work but not the new option available after the recent new upgrade

Along with these, here are some other things I wish Sony would address for their DPT-S2 (Sony, are you listening? :P):

• Copy & Paste (PDF text as well as e-ink notes via a lasso tool) [Fixed in v1.5.5 firmware]
• Ink colors besides red and blue (black and green options would be nice)
• Better palm rejection for the bottom control buttons (or disable them when inking) to prevent accidental presses

• Faster search, especially in large documents (> 30 MB)
• Global search
• Option to choose note template whenever you add a new note (e.g., lined paper, grid paper) [Fixed in v1.5.5 firmware]
• Support for other formats (if EPUB is not feasible, then it wouldn't be that difficult to add a basic plain text editor or HTML viewer, or simply allow the browser to navigate the file system)
• Soft backlight similar to the Paperwhite or Kobo's ComfortLight (even better if it had an ambient light sensor which dims the light gradually when you turn off the lights like on the Kindle Voyage)
• Faster processor (this would help with the zooming and other operations)
• Higher resolution screen (the current dpi is 150; if they truly want to emulate a sheet of printed A4, then they should bring the dpi up closer to 300)

just received mine this afternoon. the seller unlocked it , now it runs Android , I can use kindle app on it, so it beats my kindle paperwhite hands down (at least in size). cost my 6100 RMB total.

it's true, it can now install all apps that compatible with Android 2.2
