Noir Karenina. Just what I need.

I'm still reading Ian McDonald's "The Dervish House." It's very good, I just haven't had much reading time. It's at the intersection between fantasy and science fiction that I truly love--a mystical world just below the surface of a realistic future world.

The only issue is that the Turkish alphabet is sometimes rendered weirdly in the Kindle version, like all the sudden there will be a G with a diacritical mark of some kind (my Turkish, not so much) and it'll be in 20 point on an otherwise 12 point page. Jars me right out of the book.

A Little White Death by John Lawton. It's the third in this historical crime/mystery/espionage series with London detective Frederick Troy. This time outsider Troy tries to solve murders amid early 60s political intrigue and a Cold War spy scandal in Britain. It's a jump in time to an older Troy, but I'm enjoying the switch. Lots of good period detail and well-drawn characters.

I enjoyed every word, from the first to the last. This is without a doubt one of the best books I've read this year. I'll be recommending it to every reader I know.

I think I need some light reading next. It will be either The magician's apprentice by Trudi Canavan or Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman.

Just finished Game Of Thrones, I especially liked the ending and will start with book 2.
I borrowed Game Of Thrones from the Library but there's a long waiting list for book 2 so I'll just get it from Amazon.

I like this new e-book era and could never go back. Book nr 2 in A Song Of Ice And Fire bought, downloaded and ready to go. This is just so much simpler than going out buying a physical copy of a book. I don't know how I ever managed before, It sure took a lot more patience, time and dead trees.

Glad you enjoyed it . It's always a bit of a nailbiter waiting to see if a book you have really enjoyed and recommended is appreciated by others.

Yep yep, it is truly a wonderful book, for all adults and children. No, I think children wouldn't enjoy it as thoroughly as adults. I think it's the best book I've read this year too (and also last year?), although it's hard to push Wintertide and The Princess Bride down to the second and third place.

For your next book... I've never read them. Tell us what you think when you finish either.

But don't you just love the hardcover editions? I'll go for hardbacks whenever I can afford them.

I absolutely loved the first 3 books, but God Emperor of Dune was so painful I couldn't finish it. Apparently the books after that get much better and one day I might try that god-awful book again just to get to them.

My sig says I'm reading Wanderlust but actually what I'm reading now is Agatha H. and the Airship City. I'm hoping it gets better soon, because this first chapter is, uh...not so good.

I'm about half way through it and it's dragging for me. A lot is happening but not much is accomplished. There is hope that it all works together towards the end.

Considering all the positive reviews ...

I have limited space in my apartment so going out buying a lot of hardcovers would not be possible. The only books I sometimes buy on paper are programming books and that has more to do with the fact that I haven't bought a Kindle DX or a tablet yet.
All in all I can't say I miss physical books. Holding A Game Of Throne on paper instead on my Kindle would be way too heavy and clumsy

I don't have that much space for bookcases either. I bought one case when I move in 1.5 years ago, and now that case is nearly overflowing with books so I'll have to get a new one soon. But like Anh I love hardbacks, and I buy lots of paperbacks too. When I buy/build a house of my own, I want my personal library. My parents have a library of their own with thousands of books, and I spend many happy hours there when I was little. I want my kids (if I ever have any ) to have that too.

It turns out that I bought an illegal book. It's stuff from Project Gutenberg, and shouldn't have been on sale in the UK. Also, I already have all the stories in the James H. Schmitz books from Baen. (One each in Eternal Frontier, Trigger and Friends, The Hub: Dangerous Territory and Agent of Vega and Other Stories.)

I'll send a message to Fictionwise customer service. They should be restricting these 'PD only in the US' ebooks to only be on sale in the US.
