Yes I've already upgraded BookCreator to work with Calibre 0.6.0. It will be released once calibre gets more stable.

A couple new changes/features in BC 3.0:
  • One eBook Builder dialog box: I've collapsed all of the different dialog boxes to one
  • Users can build multiple formats from one dialog box by checking the desired formats.
  • More target formats supported (eReader(PDB), ePUB, IMP,LIT, LRF, MOBI, PDF )

Still no luck there!
On post #71 (link) I posted instructions on how to create a debug text file. Please follow the instructions and post the debug.txt file here. (make sure you remove the paths).

Also take a screen capture of the screen when you see this error

Hi =X=

I mentioned a few problems in the past with BC and Word 2007. I couldn't get the macro's to run without enableing them every time.

I found the reason for it, it was ABBYY Finereader. I build a new system and the problems started as soon as it was installed and dissapeared when I de-installed it.

Keep up the good work

A small query - I've been playing around with BookCreator the past couple of days, and it's given me the best ebook-building results yet. I'm very impressed, but there's just one little thing niggling me, and I don't know if it's me or not.

When I try and create an LRF file, I get too small a margin at the top of the page. It seems that no matter what numbers I put in, the top line is always just below the header, when I normally like quite thick margins - about 50 pixels (I think it's pixels?) around all sides (ie 50 x 50 x 50x 50).

But with BookCreator, even though everything else is perfect, the formatted text, instead of being centred in the screen as you'd expect with a top margin of 50, instead starts at the top, just below the header.

Is there any way around that, or am I doing something wrong?

HI Gary,
This does sound like a calibre issue. All that book creator does is converts a Word doc to HTML then feed that HTML to calibre. Calibre has had some issues with HTML generated by MS Word, in particular top margin indents on new chapter, but usually the other way. Meaning the author wanted to decrease the top margin.

I've not seen issues however with margins in the middle of a text block. Have you tried removing the header option?

Unfortunately I'm working on upgrading BC to calibre 0.6 and cannot test BC 2.5 & calibre 0.5

Hello

I downloaded BookCreator today, and I have a missing reference in the VBScript project: "MISSING: SBPubX 1.0 Type Library" which it is expected to be in C:\Program Files\Common Files\eBook Technologies\PubX.dll. This is being used in the ImpBuilder class module.

I hope this makes sense.

PS This just seems to a problem with 2.6.1. The older version 2.5.2 is OK.

Thanks

@ShellShock

This is a known issue there is also a banner on the first post describing the issue.

In short v 2.6 uses eTechnologies DLL to build IMP files, while v2.5 uses impbuild. As a result the quality of IMPs created in 2.6 are much better than those of 2.5.
If you don't care for IMP you can stay with v2.5.

The instruction are placed on the first post

Oops--sorry didn't see that!

However I do have an unrelated suggestion--perhaps you could post the Word documents that you used to create the LRFs/LITs etc in your first post. Then we could see exactly what formatting to use in the source text to get the end result.

Thanks

No need to apologized it's easy to overlook the banner. I felt bad you spent so much time investigating the issue.

Glad to be of help.

I've now used BookCreator to create a couple of LRFs, and I am very pleased with the results. I must admit I changed some of the styles and added a few of my own. I also changed some of the formatting defaults in the code; the base font size one is a bit strange--I tried changing it to 10 but it still comes up as 8. I see that not all of the values are saved (e.g., the bool for enabling headers), but that would be easy to fix.

I made a discovery in Word which is new to me. I like smart, opening and closing quotes, not the standard straight quote ". If you do a global search and replace of " with " (the same character), Word will replace straight quotes with smart quotes. The same works for single quotes too. Perhaps this could be added as a button to BookCreator?

This is why I chose MS Word and worked hard to get the styles to show up on the right pane (easy manually but it was hard in code). Everybody has different tastes and even for me some books require a different look. I wanted users to have the ability to easily change fonts, sizes and styles and even create their own as well. So it's great to hear you've made use of that feature.

The fonts size are overloaded by calibre. To change the font size on the eBook you have to set the base font size when creating the LRF eBook. By default I set the size to 8pts .

I'll add it to the v3 line of BookCreator. Incidentally do you have 2003 or 2007 I'd like to know if this trick works on both MS Word versions

Just to be clear, BookCreator doesn't work on 0.6.x Calibre?

Yes BC 2.5 does not work with calibre 0.6. Use the beta version BookCreator Beta 3.0 for calibre 0.6.x

ePUB and PDF still cause problems on BC 3.0
