I took a break from Dungeon Crawler Carl to listen to Esi Edugyan's Washington Black. What an all around pleasant distraction.

Recently started The Sky Vault. The third book in Benjamin Percy's Comet Cycle series. Audiobook version.

Which was OK, but I feel the series is running out of steam a little.

Now I'm reading Cast, in order of Disappearance by Simon Brett. The first of his Charles Paris mysteries.

Written as a contemporary murder mystery back in the early 1970s it's now also an interesting historical piece. One coincidence too many, but pretty good.

Next up was God, No! by Penn Jullette.
Fun, sometimes horrifying, reminiscences hung on alternative 10 commandments


Now reading: Antimatter Blues by Edward Ashton. The sequel to Micky 7.

Next up: Monte Carlo by Moonlight by Anton Du Beke. Looking like the expected light thriller/romance.

I just finished the 22nd book in the Agent Pendergast series by Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child; Angel of Vengeance.

IMHO this series is overdue for an ending. What started out as crime thrillers with a paranormal hint has gone too far and isn't believable anymore. I don't mind fantastical books/series but this series started out rooted firmly in reality. It isn't that the books are now bad, but the story has clearly run its course and the authors are now making it more and more fantastical to keep going. Just send Pendergast off on his well earned retirement and let him pop up occasionally in the Nora Kelly series by the same authors (which I am enjoying so far).

I also got annoyed with the authors showing off; using more difficult words than needed and describing historical things in detail when that isn't necessary.

Now I'm in the mood for a sci-fy thriller so I've picked up Antarctica Station by A.G. Riddle.

And indeed it was, with a little arson and attempted murder thrown in for good measure. Light fun.

Next up: New Voices in Science Fiction edited by Hannu Rajaniemi and Jacob Weisman. a freebie from Tachyon Publications. Good so far.
