I bought it thru JTShop at http://www.jiongtang.com/shop/ti-oma...nce-p-178.html for $209, it's now $210 plus $39 shipping. I didn't get the GPS as we already have a TomTom and I assumed there'd be difficulty getting US maps to work.

Mine came with a nice soft-sided case with a mesh pocket on one side and restraining straps for the A81 on the other. It also included some mysterious metal frame with sticky material on two sides, I guess it might be intended as a car mount. It came with AC and DC chargers and an adapter that takes the mini USB to a full-sized USB plug so you can plug any USB device or cable into it. From the above posts it might be that some of this was included free by the vendor.

@imaredr There's a new freeware version of Freda that claims to support epub books but I haven't played with it much.

@all If this is like the Archos at all, the USB host feature will require an externally powered USB device. My 605 will only work that way it hasn't seen much use in months.

@dvalin21 The link to sourceforge and the TCPMP is just the older free version of coreplayer. I haven't played with it yet but it should work well except for newer codecs since it was last updated.

Also, I wish it would recognize my network as that was my plan as well, to use it as a portable player to stream content from my PC. They may fix this in an update or I may just not know how to do this, but it won't see any of my PCs and they are running XP and Vista respectively.

I've had difficulty getting most videos to run on the A81, media player just refuses to recognize many of them and even FLV which is supposedly supported is unrecognized by the players on my A81. For ebooks there are a few good readers but the player might be a bit too heavy to hold for long periods of time. You can use the kickstand of course but this feels a good deal heavier than my Sony reader. Web browsing is too frustrating to do for long and now the keyboard won't come up so I can type in an URL, which is beyond frustrating.

I still have high hopes for this device but for now I don't mind putting it away until it's officially mine on Christmas Day.
Well this is not good as far as the USB issue. I hope that this will be fixed soon, as I am depending on it being able to power USB devices (i.e. earphone mic for skype and portable HDD).
If need be i can always convert my videos to Rm or Rmvb or Divx formated videos so not too much of a concern ( although I would have rather not spend the time converting files).
I am however worried about the reports of the internet explorer. Since the Android software is out next month, Ill be more anxious to hear all the reviews on it, but it would be cool if someone would be a daring enough to try the present version mentioned that might work if installed. Either way It may fix all the issues that you guys are having right now.

Its sounds like your having a problem with with the DHCP (software usually found on your router to automaticly generate a IP address for each device on your network). I would try shuting off any other computers or devices that connect to your router and then reboot the router (turn off/unplug) before trying to establish a connection with your device.

[p]Some routers are have advance settings that require a little tinkering before you can get certain items to connect. [/p] If anyone else can elaberate little bit more or have a better suggestion please respond. I hope this helps

Just assign it a static IP.

You won't be able to power anything with this USB port, I just read that it outputs at most 100mah. A standard USB port outputs 500mah, most portable harddrives will require more than 500mah. Portable harddrives wil either come with a power cord or a 2nd USB cable to get enough power to run.

@Tekka,

Then the only thing we can do is hope that Coldsun can figure out how to connect the bluetooth head set without errors. CRAP!! I wonder if any other BT devices would work?

I'm sorry I can't answer every question just now, but I can say that I had to assign my W1060 a static IP for it to work. The earlier firmware did not have this problem. I believe it is a bug introduced in the most current firmware, and does not show up for everyone because it only happens with certain routers.

Mobipocket does support DRM'ed ebooks, but I don't think it supports EPUB. I'll look into it.

second micro sd card slot

Just found something interesting. If you open the battery cover and take out the battery, you'll find a second micro sd card slot right on the side of the battery slot. I tried to put another micro sd card but the device won't recognize???

By the way, mine charges through USB just fine. It isn't as fast as the adapter, but the charge indicator does appear in WinCE and the device does charge. I didn't do anything to get it working and it has worked on all firmware versions I have installed.

What brand of router do you have?

D-Link DIR-655. I picked it up over a year ago, but it is the best router I've ever had. They have better models now, but this thing is so easy to configure and it works with everything I throw at it.

I'm running a linksys (Vonage router) with a Zonenet wireless router attached. I hope that it will work. Also, that mean I would probably have problems when i go on my trip, to connect to any wireless networks. I'm sure a fix will be out before I go, keeping fingers crossed Oh did you ever find a fix for the BT situation? Thanks

It seems the wireless problem isn't with every router, so you may not have a problem on your trip. As for the BT issue, so far no fix, but there is another firmware coming very soon which fixes a number of issues and hopefully that will be one of them. I know for sure that the next firmware does some things with wireless and internet.

Guys, I found another MID that is going to have Nvidia's name on it. If anyone has more information than this provide plz let me know. But it would seem it is going to have android or the maemo OS on it. Its is built with the same Arm core processor that the A81 has. I'm wonderging would the Maemo work on the A81 since its compatible with Maemo. Anyway, check it out, it seems promising

damn my unit will not charge through the usb port, do you think this is a software problem or a hardware problem.

also i do not have that 2nd micro SD slot under my battery, there is a hole that has an outline of a microsd slot on the visiable part of the PCB though. lol perhaps with some elite soldering skills someone could solder a microsd slot on there lol...

geez this wince 6.0 is getting to be a real headache to get WM apps to work on it... Why didn't just put WM 6.1 or 6.5 on it to make our lives easier.

Skyfire 1.5 and opera 10 won't even launch at all...and Igo8.3 crashes the deivce everytime, gonna try TOMTOM 7 next. Whats weird is FinalBurn for WinCE won't even open despite being made for CE, maybe it has something to do with 6.0 being really different from 5.0 which WM is based on...

Owell guess we'll have to wait for Android to make this device super usable...But i have a feeling it'll bring on a different set of problems...

currently im only using this device to read comics and watch movies on... beyond that none of my other WM apps are working...

BTW has this become the official support forum for the A81 MID ??? lol
