Thanks to Shayne Parkinson and nyrath. That is exactly what I'm looking for - and yes, I think House Of Zeor was the one I read.

*sigh* and the Wishing-chair series and Mr. Pink Whistle (who I thought of much later as a fairy-tale version of Chesterton's Father Brown for some reason ). Sorry, OT trip down memory lane

I'm looking for a book I read long time ago. I don't remember the title or the author and very little about the plot unfortunatelly so it's very hard to find. Maybe you could help me. The book was about ghosts. In the book there was an old man possessed by some ghost and a boy and there was probably a box or sth in which they kept other ghosts. There was also a house in which a guy who didn't want ghosts to find him had made some modification to make it hard for them - like changing the flow of the hot/cold water backwards etc.
The old man was possessed probably by a ghost of some famous people or maybe some nazi (but it was revealed at the end of the book probably). The title was very strange (and probably long).

Were they also using palindromes (I think that's the word? a word or phrase you can read backward and forward, like "Madam, I'm Adam") to confuse the ghosts? It could be Expiration Date, or maybe another book by Tim Powers.

That's a palindrome alright.

Can I share my favourite palindromes here?

Satan oscillate my metallic sonatas

I think this came from a competetition hosted by Stephen Fry in a UK national newspaper.

Also, one that actually tells a coherent story;

A man a plan a canal Panama

I apologize for so little to go on but a book I read years ago was about a young man growing up. To go out on dates he had to borrow the family station wagon which had Jesus Saves and other religious saying all over it. I remember parts of the book were quite funny. I thought it was Thomas Wolfe's Look Homeward Angel but I just read that and it wasn't it. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I am pretty sure I read that story in one of Garrison Keillor's Lake Wobegon books.

Anyone knows this one?

I Know it is almost impossible, but is there anyone who can help me?

It is about a book i read some time ago, cant remember title/writer :-(
It is about a government run operation to cover up all 'weird' magic/undead/psych abilities and other stuff connected. One of the story plot-points that maybe gives a clue is the scene that the main character climbs a ladder to change the board that says xxx days without vampires, later on he has the shameful duty to restore the nr of days without, because it was not a vampire 'outbreak' after al, but a different kinda creature ;-).
I don't know if it is any use to post more details?
It was a secret department hidden behind a coffee-shop/cinema..
The main character has the ability to 'see' (relive?) the past of certain items he touches, and has a partner that can see dead people.
One of the big things they where fighting against was a Cult, spiritsniffing was als one of the things, compressed spirit energy turned people into junkies when used..

[edit]
'bureaucratic' secret agency, there desks are constantly filled with piles of forms to fill out ;-) No high priced tech gadgets, more like a total lack of it (money is always running tight, budget cuts are the day to day reality), and a lot of inner department struggle , also a very old society that takes the guy in (works kinda in/with the department), but i can not remember what it was called :-(
[/edit]
It is a humorous kinda story i liked a lot, and wanted to find out if he/she had wrote some more.

Okay, when I was in middle school, there was this book I read and I remember liking it but do not remember the title or author.

It was a small book (dimensions and length) about a murder on a space station. I remember the book was a paperback and the cover was blue/dark blue with a space station picture on the front, it was shaped like a bicycle wheel with a large ring with a spindle in the center and spokes connecting the spindle to the ring. I can only remember snippets of the story. If I remember correctly, the space station was spinning to create artificial gravity. They make a point about eating rabbit meat because they reproduce so quickly. The main character was male and I'm pretty sure the supporting character was a female. I also think that the main character was being framed. I would think it was a sci/fi, murder, mystery, was defiantly fiction.

That's all i can remember. It's funny what a good story can do huh? I could probably walk right into that school library and pluck it off the shelf but can't recall the author! Thanks for any leads!

Somewhere in my boxes of old books, this books exists! I read it, and everything jives -- including the plot, the cover art and the rabbit meat. A quick search didn't turn anything up, but I'll mark this thread and get back to you when I find it.

Arrrrrgh! I can't remember the title of a poem by a very famous English author of the romantic era (probably). It's called The Lady (of) something, I thought it was the Lady of the Lake but that's not it apparently. The lady in question is a ghost or a magical creature, she lures a traveler to his death I think. I'm pretty sure everybody knows the title but me
