I remember reading about another reference, this time to Karrin. There's a throw out line in one episode of "Supernatural" where a character mentions that "There's a Sargeant Murphy in Chicago clued in to the paranormal" or something like that.

It's cool when series' are linked together in a behind-the-scenes metaworld.

Brandon Sanderson did that with his Cosmere.

Apparently, in the Alex Verus series, there is "even some mage in Chicago who advertises in the phonebook"...

↑ That is nice, Alan. Could be out of a fanart graphic novel. There is some awesome artists and Dresden fanatics out there.

I agree. This one is especially nice. Harry is scruffy, which is how I always pictured him. And this Thomas is actually pretty. He's always described as being almost too pretty for a male, and most of the other pictures haven't captured that IMO.

^ Dresden is everywhere!

The T-shirt is very cool. Looks a little pricey, though. Well, at least now I know there's a site called Redbubble selling some cool stuff.

Well, finished 'Ready Player One' yesterday. It was alright I guess. The writing was alright, it was easy enough to read. The story itself had strong parts, but was seriously lacking in other area's. I do understand that I do not fall in the age category, but certain aspects did annoy me. Some of the things that irritated me...
Spoiler:
No way that with all the resources IOI apparently had that they would figure out the first clue. The same goes for the last one. The gunters from IOI were geeks themselves and none played the riff? Very unlikely. Another point, why did they wait so long to wanting to abduct Art3mis and Shaito? They must have known their real address for ages.

A lot of the references were fun though, although a lot was from the 70's instead of the 80's.

You gotta remember it is a work of fiction. A few thoughts about your spoiler:
Spoiler:

IOI and the riff: why would any of them actually play the game after the first one already solved it. If the first person did not play the guitar, then everybody after wouldn't have as they got spoonfed the walkthrough.

Also sometimes weeks or months pass by, and all of a sudden every second counts? Because it takes time to know where the clue points to - if you know where to look it is a lot easier to find it. So once anybody finds it, activity around the site and leaks will attract everybody, and time is money (literally) again.

Why wait so long to abduct the others? It was perfect timing (well it is fiction, perfect timing can happen, sometimes too often) - but then he had to get out of prison earlier than planned - otherwise they probably would have abducted them maybe.

Spoiler:
My understanding of IoI was:
1. The actual gamers were limited in what they were allowed to do; they had to wait for instructions from the higher-ups.
2. Like most corporations - The higher-ups had more dollars than sense and/or passion and therefore wouldn't necessarily have known exactly where to look or how to play everything as instinctively.

As to your underwhelming take on the novel - I call "Bah Humbug!"
