I have been using the find duplicate plugin for a while now. I've been able to clean up my library using the title/author selection no problem. I've run the binary compare a few times and have started working on the findings, but lately, when I run the binary compare, it just keeps on going in the background without ever reporting anything. I let it run for over an hour (previously it had finished in about 5 minutes) and had to abort it. Are there any working files that may have to be cleared if I crashed out? I o have a large library 200K+ books, but, that being said the binary compare has worked in the past. It's just after a power failure, that I can't seem to get it to complete now. Any advice would be appreciated.
Edit Update: I removed the one and only exemption that I had, and the duplicate binary compare did finish this time, so I have no idea what is going on. I always seem to have weird and bizarre problems that no one else ever has. Go figure. Still if anyone has any ideas of what might be going on, I would appreciate hearing guesses. Just checking in, I have kept using the plugin version that has the option to compare different metatada columns, not just tags, but I wanted to make sure I am not missing out on anything that would make a huge difference if I changed it over. I don't know why you removed the "advanced" options but I kept it.

I removed the advanced options because I don't want to support their implementation - they were a too niche, complicated use case. They were not added to the plugin by me and I have no intention of resurrecting them.

Hi! I have Find Duplicates installed and it works great with my Calibre libraries.
I have a Kobo Clara E2. When this device is connected to Calibre, I cannot use Find Duplicates with the files on the device. Yes, it's available on the toolbar I have for when a device is connected. Yes, I can visibly confirm there are duplicates on my device. Anyone have suggestions or more insight? TIA! |

Right click on the bar where the current library is shown and click on Clear History. Please note that this is an all or none operation.

Many thanks for the plugin, it basically works well. I searched for duplicates using the “Binary Compare” method and found many duplicate books.
However, there are 5 books left over that I can't for the life of me understand where they are supposed to be duplicates. 5 different titles, 5 different authors and covers. I realize that the result should be unique because the file structure is compared with the respective hash. But the last 5 results only appear individually, nothing is duplicated. And am I missing something? |

Binary compare only compares the ebook files themselves (file size and date IIRC); it doesn't look at the metadata in de database. So those ebooks have the same format, fize size and date. They may well be the same book, regardless of the metadata they have, or they may not (not very likely, but not impossible). Open them and see.

But which book should I compare the alleged duplicates with? I get five different books displayed. When I open the respective folder of the book, I can see from the file size that they are not the same books.
Of the 26 books previously displayed, the duplicates could previously be clearly seen because they were displayed directly next to each other in the results. You could then easily delete one book at a time. Last edited by T1t0; 04-18-2025 at 08:04 AM. |
