That sounds a bit defective. You should prob take it back. You know you have to hold the button for about 3 seconds right?

Yes, I know; and yes, I intend to return it. Dang.

I think that's the same one but the page has been slightly redesigned. The files are named the same but I can't tell... I'll try the upgrade when i have access to a 32 bit windows box.

I've been trying to track down an SDK for this and the closest I got was another forum where the guy created a assembler for Rockchip 2608 based devices. I was unable to run any of the sample programs...

To add insult to injury delstar is only posting positive reviews on their website and walgreens is so restrictive on what you can put in a review there you can't make a comprehensive review there either really.

I'm certainly not surprised that Delstar would only post positive comments; it's their product, after all. But I guess I'm more surprised by Walgreens...

I _tried_ to find a way to specify the pros and cons in such a way that it satisfied Walgreens review process, and it appeared like my review was accepted, but it's still not on-line. Imagine that! Anyway, I emailed Walgreens.com customer service asking them about the process by which these reviews get posted...I'm not confident I'll hear anything back, but I guess it's all a consumer can do...

I tried to post a review several days ago, but it never showed up. Interestingly enough someone named John got a 1 star review posted that mostly quotes one of my posts in this thread. So my words got posted in a review even though I didn't submit that particular review. The important thing is we tried to do the right thing and warn people not to buy it unless they just want a photo/video viewer.

Oh well my next experiment should arrive tomorrow--a smartQ V7 I got used off of eBay. I hope it does a better job as a backlit reader. It has Archos, linux, and WinCE 6 pre-installed, so it should.

I had a hard time trying to decide between the V7 and the A81 - I went the other way, so my A81 should be on its way from China in the next few days. Let's hope we both end up more satisfied this time...

Nice platform, but it requires a lot of knowledge of Android, Linux, and WinCe 6.0. I recommend it only for the geekier folks who like to tinker.

Firmware updates are always exactly the same size. If it is compressed the size will vary somewhat but expanded firmware always fills up all of the memory.

You'd think so but the first and second updates I installed were different sizes.
