How to change font encoding?

Hi

I just installed Calibre in preparation to buy my first Kindle reader and I have some Czech language .pdb files that do not show some diacritics letters correctly when added to Calibre library- see attached example. I tried switching different fonts but this does not seem to help as you probably also need to set the code page for the font.

Is there a way in Calibre to set the default font encoding for added books? I would like to set mine to Eastern European (Windows-1250) but could not find a setting for this anywhere.

There is a box for 'Input character encoding' on the Convert|Look&Feel page.

Your attached file appears to have utf-8 coding. The first few lines of code that Calibre has extracted from the pdb are

Thanks, that helped a lot!

I input "Windows-1250" on that line and it worked for the converted mobi file. Paragraphs are basically non-existent but at leaast the encoding is correct now.

Edit: I think the paragraphs are not defined in the source pdb file so it's not an issue of the coversion, right?

Uhm, now I just hope the encoding will show correctly also on my Kindle once it arrives... any experience with this?

Not from me I'm afraid. I've never even seen a Kindle. Maybe someone else will chip in with their experiences.
