Syncing freezes after a few titles

Hello,

I have noticed that when I plug my prs-300 into my laptop and sync content that it will only add new additions but stop syncing anything older. It just runs until I cancel the sync. This happened before and I was able to solve the issue by doing a soft reset. It worked for a few days. Now the problem is happening again and even a soft reset won't solve it.

If I sync on another computer it works just fine but the computer it has troubles on is my primary computer and I'd sure like to get it working.

I guess I should add that the software is the Sony Reader software.

Any ideas? It is not a major problem since it will add new additions but won't sync older one.

This may not help, but I thought I'd throw this out there. I had a somewhat similar situation with my 600, where it would hang up during sync. I found a solution somewhere on this forum (I don't remember where, so I can't credit the angel who solved my problem) that fixed my problem. Maybe it'll work for you. Here's what I did.

I opened my Sony Reader Library software without my eReader connected. In the left-side panel, I clicked "Books" under "Library" so that the books I've imported showed in the right-side panel. This next part might take a while if you have a lot of books -- I double clicked each book I have to preview them (or right-clicked and clicked preview), until I came to a book the software couldn't find. I deleted that book, re-connected my eReader, and everything synced up just fine. Afterward, I re-added the book I deleted and synced again. I haven't had a problem since.

I have a friend who recently got a 300 (I think) who had the same issue. The fix worked for her, too.

Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestion. I previewed every book in my library (both on my computer and the reader) and the problem still seems to persist.

Any other suggestions anyone?

UPDATE: I noticed it seems to stop syncing on the same title so I deleted the title thinking it might work ... no dice.

The exact same thing happened to me when I first started using my 300, and it seems like a common occurrence with Sony software. I don't even use the sync function. I just drag books from my library onto the reader. Honestly, I wouldn't sweat it too much.

Have you guys tried Calibre? I use it almost exclusively now and have had no problems!

When I had my problem, I tried that too. It turned out the book it was hanging on was not the one causing the problem. I know you said your preview feature had no trouble finding all your books, but I wanted to comment on this anyway.

Sorry the fix didn't work!

I have used calibre and it works good. But if I want to use the Sony store I need to use the Sony Reader software. Can calibre be used to import drm files to the reader?

It was a good suggestion and it might help someone else!

I am just wondering why it works well on one computer but not the other?

I wonder if I delete all the files on one computer and re-sync if this will fix the problem ... hmmm

UPDATE: I solved the problem. I deleted all the titles from the computer then re-transferred them from my reader to the computer and now sync works perfectly. There must have been a corrupt file somewhere that was causing the hangup. It would be nice if Sony would have some sort of log where you can see what exactly is going on ...

I just use the sony software to connect to the Sony store and download ebooks. I then import them into Calibre using the Add Book button (furthest left hand button).

Calibre has no problem handing the transfer of DRM ebooks, you just can't convert them to a different format.
