GPE Environment V2.7 for Linux PDAs released

The GPE Palmtop Environment provide a free software GUI environment for basically any handheld device running Linux (e.g. Sharp Zaurus, Simpad, modified Compaq IPAQ). GPE 2.7 includes not only hundreds of bug-fixes, but also various new applications such as a new mini-browser, a GUI screenshot tool, a new online help bowser, and a port of the popular Internet chat tool Gaim. For desktop syncronization, you can use OpenSync which now includes a plugin for GPE-based PIM apps.

The next release of GPE (V2.8) is planned for June 2006.

Looks very pretty. Has another tried running GPE on a Nokia 770? I'd think it should work given that the Nokia 770 platform is based on Debian.

I think my taste just sucks. I really dislike the way KDE looks with its buttons and working. And though I like the simplicity of Gnome, I really dislike GPE and QTE on the palm because for some reason it looks so ... unbalanced. Unmodern. I am not sure how to describe it.

I tend to agree. Some other ideas/GUIs, as the things in Newton OS or Penpoint GO OS were more interesting for handhelding.
