A terrible Kindle article

Barnes & Noble: Please Avoid These Kindle Mistakes

This has got to be one of the most ill informed articles I've ever read concerning the Kindle. It has five points and 4 of them are simply wrong.

Point 1 knocks the Kindle for not supporting PDF. However the Kindle DX does support PDF (although not as well as I'd like).

Point 2 claims the Kindle 1 didn't support a USB cable. Yes it does. It just wasn't built into the charger.

Point 3 asks for a lower price. No arguement from me.

Point 4 says "Please give us a backlit screen." This guy is an idiot.

Point 5 implies you need to buy a copy of the book for every device you want to read the ebook on. Once again this is wrong.

Way to go PC World.

Point 1 is talking about the K2. So the DX does not count in this case.

Point 4 says Sony has a backlit screen. I think he means a front light scree because of the 700's LEDs. But he's still wrong. It's not backlit asnd Sony doesn't have it.

Point 5 is correct in one respect. If I bought a Kindle eBook, I cannot read it on my computer. This is the weak link in Amazon's eBooks. You HAVE to have either a Kindle or an iPhone/iPod Touch and if you only have a computer, you are out of luck.

This is only true if you don't want to remove DRM

I wanted to comment on that article but after I registered they would only let me sign in using my email address, wasn't taking the chance of spitting that out over thousands of random computers over the net.

PC World are one of the worst magazines/websites in the industry. Their articles are often incorrect and they regularly post topics just because they are inflammatory and people visit the website to argue about those inflammatory subjects.

They don't properly research half of what they write about and many of their writers are extremely biased towards one device/platform or another (probably as a result of 'sponsors' paying for favorable opinion pieces).

You don't have a "throw-away" e-mail address for these things? It's a good idea to set up, say, a Hotmail or Gmail address for use for such systems.

In fairness, I have a Hotmail address which I use for logging on to all such systems. It gets zero, and I mean _zero_, spam. These companies really don't seem to be in the business of "selling" your e-mail address.

Reminds me of the Kindle article in Wired this month.

He said that Amazon needed to release a full-color, A4, touchscreen e-ink device that could display full video, have newspapers exactly the same as the print version and the ability to click on ads to watch commercials instead of the Kindle DX

Even though he knows that color e-ink is years off and the technology isn't there.

Why does most of the media have insane demands that border on fantasy when it comes to e-readers?

Actually it could be done with severe compromises- a pixel-qi screen, but much heavier, with shorter battery life and at an exorbitant price - hardly the substitute for a book/magazine.

You just can't have everything right now. That's the attitude that caused the new depression.
