				k2pdfopt
K2pdfopt optimizes PDF/DJVU files for mobile e-readers (e.g. the Kindle) and smartphones. It works well on multi-column PDF/DJVU files and can re-flow text even on scanned PDF files. It can also be used as a general PDF copying/cropping/re-sizing/OCR-ing manipulation tool. It can generate native or bitmapped PDF output, with an optional OCR layer. There are downloads for MS Windows, Mac OSX, and Linux. The MS Windows version has an integrated GUI. K2pdfopt is open source. Works great and produces a very readable K2 output. Any chance to do one for the Kindle DXG? Or, could you suggest which options I'd need to use since I'm not that computer savy. Thanks. Regards, Tom |

I have now tested this program and I am so impressed by it. It quickly converts dual column scientific papers with formulas and figures so that they can be easily read on the Kindle 3. It works much better than Duokans two-column function and is in my opinion one of the most important tools ever to have appeared for eBook readers.

But it doesn't work for Macs.

True, that's a pity. However, if you have several pdf's to convert, you could install "VirtualBox" from Oracle (previously a Sun µSystems product) & install k2toPDF. I've done that & it works fine. It would be much nicer to have a mac native version of k2toPDF though |

@wangminh12 thanks for pointing this program from willus. It rendered my (scanned document) pdf with multiply sized images, split some columns, enlarged some segments, cropped others pages, and really made a suite of differently zoomed images... All in all, and despite the weird and inconsistent page styles, it produced the easiest reading and best output I have seen for a PDF. ... and I have tried many, many, many PDF "enhancers" to 6 inches screen. This is a gem. |

Many thanks Willus. I downloaded the new version and it works great. Now it's much easier to select options to fine-tune things. Best Kindle addon ever imho! Cheers, TomC |
